About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available to join the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA) as a Sexual Violence Peer Worker. This is a full time, fixed term position, until June 2027.

This unique role draws on relevant lived experience and personal insight to support the coordination and delivery of peer-informed group programs for people who have experienced sexual violence.

Working alongside specialist Sexual Assault Counsellor Advocates, you will contribute to group sessions by sharing meaningful perspectives that foster connection, hope and empowerment for victim-survivors. You will also support program coordination, community engagement activities and education initiatives that help raise awareness of sexual violence and its impacts.

While this role is informed by lived experience, you are not required to disclose personal details of your experience. Rather, you will use your personal context and perspective in a way that is safe, purposeful and aligned with the peer support model. You will be supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, receive regular supervision, and work within a trauma-informed, culturally safe framework. This is a non-clinical role and does not involve therapeutic counselling or participant suitability assessments.

About SECASA

As one of Victoria’s largest specialist sexual assault and family violence services, SECASA provides compassionate, evidence-based support to individuals, families and communities through crisis response, therapeutic intervention, prevention and education. Our services include:

  • Specialist counselling and therapeutic support for victim-survivors and affected family members
  • 24/7 sexual assault crisis response
  • Programs supporting children and young people with harmful sexual behaviours
  • Community education and primary prevention initiatives
  • Secondary consultation and professional training

At SECASA, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for people of all gender identities, cultures, sexualities, faiths, ages and abilities. We value diversity and recognise the importance of inclusive, person-centred care.

About You

You are someone with relevant lived experience of sexual violence—either personally or through supporting someone close to you—and you feel ready to use your experience to support others in a meaningful way. You bring empathy, insight and emotional awareness, along with a strong commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centred practice.

You will also have:

  • A strong understanding of the gendered nature of sexual and family violence
  • The ability to build trust and foster safe, respectful relationships
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • The ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and appropriate boundaries
  • A commitment to reflective practice, self-care and ongoing professional development

Relevant qualifications in Peer Work, Community Services, Community Development, Mental Health Peer Work or related disciplines will be highly regarded.

In Return

In joining SECASA, you will become part of a deeply committed and supportive team making a meaningful difference in the lives of victim-survivors and our community. We recognise the unique value that lived experience brings and are committed to creating an environment where peer workers feel safe, respected and genuinely supported to thrive. In return, we offer:

  • A meaningful opportunity to contribute to healing, connection and systemic change
  • Comprehensive onboarding, regular supervision and ongoing peer support
  • Access to professional development and learning opportunities
  • A collaborative, inclusive and values-driven team culture
  • The opportunity to work within one of Victoria’s leading specialist sexual assault and family violence services
  • The support of Monash Health, including access to wellbeing initiatives and employee benefits

At SECASA, we understand the importance of wellbeing and reflective practice. We are committed to supporting our people with care, compassion and respect—so you can bring your best to this important work.
