Ward E is a 30 bed adult acute mental health unit that provides treatment, care and support during an acute phase of mental illness. The unit provides a range of therapeutic interventions and programs available to consumers and their families to learn more about the impact of the illness, explore ways to better manage the illness, improve coping strategies, moving towards recovery.
About the role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is a registered psychiatric nurse (RPN 5) responsible for assisting the Ward E Nurse Manager in developing, maintaining and evaluating clinical services delivery. They must demonstrate a sound knowledge of clinical capabilities that focuses on developing clinical nursing practices. Which includes evidence based practice mental health nursing care that embraces recovery orientated principles for consumers and their families.
This senior Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) role provides leadership in implementing key Department of Health mental health initiatives, including Safewards, the Mental Health Intensive Care framework, and strategies to reduce restrictive interventions, with a strong focus on improving consumer and carer experiences while maintaining a safe care environment. Working closely with the Nurse Manager, the CNC delivers high-level clinical consultancy, supports complex care planning for high-risk consumers, and drives evidence-based, recovery-oriented practice within Ward E. The role plays a critical part in clinical governance, staff mentorship, service development, and quality improvement initiatives, while contributing to mental health reform, research, and education. The CNC fosters a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with legislative standards and promoting safe, person-centred care across the service.
