An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at Casey Hospital, Monash Health to assist in covering long service leave from 24th November 2026 to 20th January 2027.
The paediatric unit at Casey has a 20 cot SCN and a 20 bed children's ward (shared with Paediatric Surgery and ENT), supported by a team of dedicated nurses and three other consultants to provide 24 hour cover. The unit has 8 FTE of registrars, an SRMO, 6 HMOs and a part time Clinical Nurse Consultant. Each paediatrician participates in a 1 in 4 roster of ward service, after-hours cover and a number of outpatient clinics per month. The outpatient clinics have registrar or SRMO support. In addition, it is expected that consultants attend weekly teaching and clinical review meetings and contribute to the non-clinical activities of the paediatric unit.
On average the role will be paid at 12.27 hours/week plus on call as rostered. There may be an opportunity to work some additional hours. The role comprises:
- Ward service week (1 week in 4):
- Supervision of morning handover 0800-0830
- Daily ward rounds of Paediatric Ward and Special Care Nursery and cover for advice and emergencies until 1700
- Monday afternoon - General Paediatric outpatient clinic
- Tuesday afternoon – Results Review clinic
- Wed afternoon – Rapid Review clinic
- Thursday afternoon – cover registrars to allow their attendance at teaching
- On call Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
- Non ward service weeks:
- Monday morning General Paediatric outpatient clinic the week after ward service
- Thursday afternoon teaching attendance
- On call:
- One night per week from 1700-0800 (currently Tuesday nights) and Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights of ward service week
- Must be available to attend emergencies within 30 minutes (local accommodation may be able to be reimbursed if needed)
- Other duties:
- Supervision and mentorship of junior medical staff
