About the Department / Program

Ward C is a 32-bed Medical Surgical inpatient ward located at Casey Hospital. The ward provides nurses with the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. Surgical services include urology, gynaecology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), plastics, and general surgery, offering a dynamic and varied clinical environment that supports the development of broad clinical knowledge and skills.

About the Role

Join our team as a Nurse Manager on a full-time, ongoing basis at Casey Hospital in Berwick. This Monday to Friday leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a busy medical and surgical ward while shaping the delivery of exceptional patient care.

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to a multidisciplinary team, driving safe, high-quality, patient-centred care while advancing clinical excellence, workforce capability and operational performance.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of safe, evidence-based, person-centred care, ensuring compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and organisational requirements.
  • Provide visible leadership across clinical governance, workforce management, quality improvement, patient safety and operational performance. 
  • Drive patient flow, service improvement initiatives and quality outcomes in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Lead, coach and develop nursing staff, fostering a positive, accountable and high-performing team culture.
  • Oversee financial, workforce and resource management to support efficient and sustainable service delivery. 
  • Champion best practice by reviewing clinical pathways, guidelines and procedures, responding to Serious Adverse Patient Safety Events, and embedding continuous improvement. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including Victorian Occupational Health and Safety requirements, the Safe Patient Care Act and the Enterprise Agreement. 

 

As part of the Hospital and Clinics leadership team, you will contribute to organisational priorities including workforce development, innovation, research, digital transformation and financial sustainability, while actively participating in site and organisational committees, operational forums and program meetings to support service improvement and organisational objectives.

 

About You
You're an experienced nursing leader who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care while inspiring and developing others. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, build strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams and lead with integrity, accountability and compassion.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated nursing leadership experience within an acute healthcare setting, ideally in medical and surgical services. 
  • A proven ability to lead clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. 
  • Strong people leadership skills, with experience coaching, mentoring and developing high-performing teams. 
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and change management skills. 
  • Sound operational, workforce and financial management capability. 
  • A commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous improvement and delivering exceptional patient-centred care. 
  • The ability to provide expert clinical and operational leadership while driving service improvement and achieving organisational objectives. 

 

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA). 
  • Recent nursing management experience. 
  • Postgraduate qualification in management, leadership or a related field (or working towards).
