About the Role:

 

Join our team as a Patient Services Assistant on a permanent part-time time ongoing basis to work General Services in the Emergency Department at Casey Hospital. These roles have responsibility for the effective provision of Emergency Department based support to the Nursing team in the delivery of patient care and incorporate cleaning and patient meal services, patient transfer between wards, mortuary transfers, and can involve patient lifting & turning inpatient bed areas under the direction of Nursing/Midwifery employees. These roles will provide a high-quality, customer-focused service to internal and external customers. Efficient communication and timely responses to requests for service are paramount for this position in achieving sustainable service delivery. The ideal candidate will enjoy working within a committed and fast-paced team that strives to consistently deliver high-quality and efficient cleaning services and patient care. 

 

PSAs play a vital role in supporting the clinical team in the delivery of patient care. They do a range of tasks including, but not limited to, cleaning, patient transfers, and equipment handling. Working as part of a team and on their own, PSAs are responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and patient support across the hospital.

 

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Patient transfers using equipment such as hoists, slides, bed movers and wheelchairs
  • Daily ward cleaning, discharge room cleans, and unscheduled cleans
  • Ensuring adherence to infection prevention protocols at all times.
  • Patient discharge assistance
  • Mortuary transfers
  • Ward equipment, cleaning and transferring
  • Ensuring patient privacy and dignity at all times
  • Supporting clinical staff with patient care tasks as directed
  • Physical work including lifting and manual handling

 

 

We currently have the following opportunities available: 

 

Position 1:  (Roster allocations are subject to change)

Days: Main ED- Monday 
Hours: 11.30 pm - 07.30 am

Total Hours per Fortnight: 15 hours

 

Position 2:  (Roster allocations are subject to change)

Location and Days: Main ED, Thursday
Hours: 5:00 pm -11:30 pm

Total Hours per Fortnight: 12 hours

 

About You

 

To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:

 

  • Experience in patient services within hospital, aged care or cleaning settings
  • Strong knowledge of infection control and hygiene practices
  • Passion for patient care, consistently demonstrating respect and empathy
  • Reliable and punctual team member with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate computer skills to support daily tasks and documentation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Committed to following manual handling, safety protocols and procedural instructions

 

Mandatory requirements of the role 

  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

Casey Hospital in Berwick is a major Monash Health facility offering emergency, maternity, surgical, mental health, and rehabilitation services. An expansion added new beds, operating theatres, and the hospital’s first intensive care unit to meet the needs of Melbourne’s growing south-east community.
