Join our established team of Lived Experience Consultants team as a Senior Family/Carer Consultant (LEW Level 4) an a part-time 0.6EFT ongoing basis, working in based in our Dandenong Community site.

About the role  

Our Lived Experience Consultant Team consists of a Senior Consumer and a Senior Family/Carer Consultant, two Consumer Consultants, and two Family/Carer Consultants. This position is responsible for providing professional leadership to the two Family/Carer Consultants, as well as providing consumer perspective supervision to the broader family/carer lived experience workforce. The position is also responsible for leading quality improvement projects and initiatives to embed family/carer perspectives at all levels of program governance, and representing family/carer perspectives on a range of working groups and committees. The role also involves overseeing the Carer Brokerage Fund and the administration of the Carer Experience Survey (CES) for the mental health program.

 

About you
As a designated family/carer lived experience role, you will have a declared personal experience of supporting someone living with mental illness, and experience of the mental health system.

You possess a deep understanding of mental health challenges through your own lived experience as a family/carer and are passionate about supporting others. You have a genuine commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with mental health difficulties and their carers through systemic advocacy. With a strong focus on inclusion, diversity, and person-centred care, you bring excellent communication and interpersonal skills to your work. Your enthusiasm, compassion, and ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team set you apart. You are driven to pursue a meaningful and purposeful career, with a desire to grow as a lived experience health professional. As an experienced lived experience worker, you are dedicated to fostering reflective practice in collaboration with others.

 

What You Need

To ensure your success in this role you will demonstrate the following key skills, experience and knowledge (see attached Position Description for a complete list of requirements):

  • Declared personal experience of suporting someone living with mental illness, including experience of supporting someone as a mental health service user.
  • An understanding of the public mental health system
  • At least 3 years' experience of working in a family/carer lived experience role (for example, as a Consultant, Peer Worker, or equivalent)
  • An ability to use your own lived experience with intent and purpose, and articulate the collective carer voice
  • An ability to work with carers, family members and health professionals to contribute and promote system change
