About the Role

 

Join our team as a Social Worker in Adult Mental Health, on a part time (.8 EFT) ongoing basis, working at Casey Hospital. 

 

In this Grade 2 Position, you will work with adult inpatient consumers with varying degrees of acute psychiatric or mental illness and/or drug and alcohol dependency problems. You will be a recognised member of the care team, and at any time you would be providing direct clinical service to individuals, families and carers in a timely manner as directed by the Senior Social Worker.  You will work independently within your approved scope of practice to provide safe, evidence-based assessment, outcome measures and therapeutic engagement to provide excellent psychosocial support to consumers.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

•    Deliver Comprehensive Psychosocial Support: Provide direct clinical services through assessments, counseling, discharge planning, and advocacy to individuals, families, and carers, ensuring person-centered, holistic care.
•    Coordinate Discharge and Community Integration: Ensure timely and effective discharge planning by coordinating with housing, NDIS, Centrelink, and other community services to support the patient’s return to community life.
•    Engage in Collaborative, Multidisciplinary Care: Work in close partnership with mental health teams and community service providers, contributing to the development and delivery of integrated care plans.
•    Champion Family and Carer Engagement: Facilitate family-sensitive practice, including conducting family meetings and supporting carers as key partners in recovery.
•    Mentor and Supervise: Provide clinical supervision to Grade 1 Social Workers and guidance to students, contributing to the professional development of the team.
•    Promote Safety, Advocacy, and Best Practice: Uphold client safety through risk-minimizing practices, mandatory reporting (e.g., domestic violence, child welfare), and ensure ethical, evidence-based service delivery aligned with AASW standards.

 

About Us
Ward E is a part of Monash Health Mental Health Services, and is currently a 30 bed, well established unit that is known for its high performing and supportive culture.  Its implementation of Safewards is highly regarded. Its focus on quality services to consumers supporting access and flow have attracted many compliments from consumers and their families and carers. 

 

•    We have capacity for up to 5 Intensive Care Area beds and another 5 designated beds for step down, transitional level of care to support comprehensive discharge planning and community engagement where possible, before discharge. 
•    Consumers remain in the unit until they have recovered to the point where they can be treated effectively and safety in the community. 
•    Our work is supported by a specialised multidisciplinary team, with direct liaising with the comprehensive community mental health services (including Mental Health Hospital in the Home).
•    Collaboratively we provide a range of therapeutic interventions and programs available to consumers and their families to learn more about the impact of the illness, explore ways to better manage the illness, improve coping strategies and move towards recovery.

 

About You
•    Bachelor of Social Work or Masters Social Work Qualifying OR Masters of Social Work, OR equivalent as assessed and approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
•    Demonstrated experience within an Inpatient Unit or similar
•    An understanding of Forensic Mental Health is highly regarded
•    Eligible for ordinary membership of AASW (http://www.aasw.asn.au/)
•    Written evidence of eligibility for AASW membership for overseas qualifications is required. 
•    Accredited Social Worker and/or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker: As approved by the AASW
