Nestled within the leafy grounds of Kingston Centre in Heatherton, Boollam Boollam Aged Care Centre offers a state-of-the-art, purpose-built residential facility dedicated to comfort, dignity, and excellence in aged care. With 150 beds across four thoughtfully designed floors, our modern infrastructure supports a warm, home-like environment, tailored to meet the unique needs of every resident.
About the Role:
Join our team as a Chef on Part time ongoing basis in this exciting opportunity to work at the new Boollam Boollam Aged Care Centre.
As part of the Support Services team and reporting to the Chef Manager, our Chefs play a vital role in delivering high-quality nutrition and hydration services that enhance the health and wellbeing of our residents. They are responsible for preparing meals that meet both standardised recipes and individual dietary needs, while maintaining full compliance with food safety and quality standards. The role also supports food service delivery across the residents, contributes to product and process development, and helps uphold Monash Health's Department of Health Food Service standards. Chefs are also involved in preventative maintenance reporting, kitchen audits, and continuous improvement initiatives that drive excellence in both service and operations.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Preparing and serving meals in a timely manner according to standardised recipes and dietary requirements
- Ensuring compliance with all food safety, hygiene, infection control, and quality standards
- Maintaining and auditing the Food Safety Program, identifying critical control points and developing corrective actions
- Participating in hygiene and cleanliness audits within kitchen environments
- Supporting internal and external meal services to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes
- Monitoring and maintaining quality standards in menu planning and food preparation
- Contributing to the review and improvement of food regeneration standards and work methods
- Ensuring compliance with the Food Safety Program, Victorian Nutritional Standards, Portion Guidelines, and OHS procedures
- Reporting faults and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for kitchen equipment in collaboration with the Production or Food Services Manager
- Recommending and initiating proposals for improved production or service delivery
- Collaborating with the Chef Manager and team to meet service expectations and support operational goals
We are seeking Chefs to join our Residential Food Services team, working 7-hour shifts starting at 7:00am, from Monday to Sunday. In this kitchen-based role, you will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of hot meals in line with standardised recipes and resident dietary requirements.
As a key member of the team, the Chef ensures that all meals are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard of quality and presentation. You will play an important part in maintaining food safety practices, supporting kitchen operations, and working collaboratively with the clinical and lifestyle teams to deliver a warm, welcoming, and nutritious dining experience for our residents and their families.
About You:
To ensure your success in this role, you will bring a solid foundation of industry-recognised training, paired with hands-on experience in food services or commercial kitchens. You will have a strong understanding of food safety regulations, HACCP principles, and quality management systems. Your ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team, along with excellent communication skills, will allow you to contribute positively to the kitchen environment. You will take pride in your work, maintain high standards of hygiene, and be confident in meeting the physical demands of the role, including manual handling tasks. Demonstrated time management skills, a proactive attitude, and a focus on delivering high-quality service are essential.
You are also required to hold:
- Trade qualification – Commercial Cookery
- Current Food Safety qualification
- Food services certificate (HLTFSE001: Follow basic food safety practices or SITXFSA001: Use hygienic practices for food safety
- Qualification in HACCP procedures and quality management systems
