About the Role:

Our Support Services team provides a range of essential non-clinical services that help our hospitals run. We provide food services, central production kitchen, patient support, porters, cleaning, linen, pest control, waste management, car parking, hygiene services and some retail services.

About Us:

The Food Services team at Kingston Food service – Sandwich production requires a qualified Food Services Assistant to prepare and provide meals to our wards and external clients striving to consistently deliver high quality and efficient services to our patients. Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, working as part of the Food Services team at Kingston Food services, the main focus for a Food Services Assistant is on delivering an exceptional patient meal experience and willing to work within the values of Monash Health. The Food Service Assistant will be committed to work in a team environment with the ability to prioritise your tasks to prepare and provide meals, and delivering outstanding customer services. As an experienced Food Services Assistant, you’ll be responsible for the preparation, regeneration, plating, delivery and collection of meals throughout the day. Other key duties include:

•             Prepare sandwiches and salads as per patient orders or client specifications.

•             Assemble sandwiches using appropriate ingredients while considering dietary needs and allergies.

•             Cook and prepare sandwich fillings ensuring quality and consistency.

•             Take precautions to prevent cross-contamination of allergens during food preparation.

•             Clearly label allergen-containing ingredients and ensure accurate communication of allergen information to kitchen staff and clients.

•             Accommodate special dietary needs and restrictions, including allergies and intolerances, as specified by patients or clients.

•             Monitor and maintain inventory of sandwich ingredients and supplies.

•             Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, equipment, and utensils.

•             Follow proper handwashing procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

•             Adhere to food safety guidelines and maintain required documentation.

•             Maintain accurate records related to food preparation, Monica temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and inventory

About You:  

As a talented Food Services Assistant, you take personal pride in providing excellent customer service and committed to meeting service delivery requirements in accordance with the Food Safety Program. To ensure your success in this role, you will have the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:

  • Qualification relevant to Health HLTFSE001 – Follow basic food safety practice (Essential)
  • Previous experience preferably within healthcare
  • Experience in the delivery of Food Services including an ability to negotiate positive outcomes for patients
  • Clear understanding food safety guidelines
  • A competent level of verbal & written communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) combined with outstanding customer service skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of diet codes, texture modified foods and fluids, food allergies and intolerances.
  • Ability to undertake physical work including lifting, carrying and manual handling
  • Sound computer skills and ability to learn/apply computer-based menu management system
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, able to provide a friendly approach to all patients and visitors at Monash Health
