About the Role 

This position would suit a trainee seeking an accredited Cancer Care setting term for Palliative Medicine advanced training, or an advanced trainee seeking medical oncology experience in their pursuit of training in another medical specialty, with a fixed term contract of 6 - 12 months.  The registrar post will involve a rotation through medical oncology settings to maximise learning opportunities. Rotations include the in-patient wards, and the Moorabbin CDU/outpatient clinics. The CDUs are supported by a HMO and registrar’s duties include supervision of patients attending for chemotherapy, attending to inter-current problems and managing anti-cancer therapy side effects. The positions also involve attendance at several tumour site specific clinics and MDT meetings. Clinical duties are rostered to a total of 43 hours per the award, including five hours a week of rostered training time. Consultation with patients of other units is required at at all campuses. Participation at clinical meetings will include case presentations, journal article reviews and topic presentations. 

Research Interest of Unit 

The Oncology Department is one of the busiest clinical units at Monash Health. Phase 1, 2 and 3 oncology clinical trials are based at the Monash Health Translation Precinct Clinical Trial Centre (MHTP CTC). Trainees are encouraged to undertake / continue a clinical project.  

 

What you'll need:

  • A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) which is recognised for registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency 

  •  Trainee of Chapter of Palliative Medicine, or Relevant Medical college, with FRACP Part 1 exam (or provisional) 

  • Motor vehicle driver licence
