About the Role
The Intern position is for a competent Graduate Dental Practitioner or Dental Practitioner, who is responsible for the provision of general clinical dental duties within the scope of practice. In this position you will be required to work in partnership with the Mentors/Clinical Supervisors and Dental team in all facets of general dentistry. The position will provide you with an outstanding opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in a safe, supportive and progressive team environment. The Intern Dentist will need to meet performance expectation

  • Carry out compliance and improvement against the key elements of quality and safety
  • Be responsible for quality of care at point of care
  • Contribute to the provision of excellence in clinical services, research, education and knowledge transfer within Dental medicine.
  • Contribute to processes ensuring patients receive high quality services and continuity of care, and that high quality clinical standards and clinical outcomes and risk management approaches and accreditation requirements are achieved.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a high quality multidisciplinary team, appropriate access to Dental services, open communication, collaborative working relationships and professional behaviours at all times.
  • Participate in all educational and reporting activities in relation to intern program
  • Duties as outlined in the relevant Enterprise Agreement

 

Operational/Clinical

The following responsibilities/ accountabilities deliver on the Monash Health Strategic Plan 2013-2018 and the Clinical Governance Framework

  • Promote evidence based clinical care and carry out a range of dental procedures.
  • To assist with professional /administrative support for dental staff in providing a dental service which has a preventive as well as a curative approach to eligible clients of the service.
  • Provide an environment that is safe, comfortable and non- threatening to the client and other staff.
  • Provide high quality customer service, including sensitively dealing with client and ensuring their needs are most appropriately met.
  • Maintain accurate client and program records and statistics as required by funding bodies.
  • Participate in the services health promotion program using a health promotion approach during individual client contact.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication between specialists to achieve a successful referral process, resulting in timely access.
  • Participate in all clinical programs provided as part of Monash Health Dental Services.
  • To undertake clinical supervision of dental auxiliaries or under graduates, assuring accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, including the identification of high dental risk patients.
  • Undertake relevant quality & safety activities to ensure you and your area of responsibility comply with the National Safety & Quality Heath Service (NSQHS)Standards

Financial management

  • Ensure that there is financial responsibility and accountability across the functions under the position’s control and develop and implement financial strategies that will ensure budgetary targets and key performance indicators are met.
  • Initiate and implement actions to improve the financial effectiveness of all functions under the position’s control.

People

  • Participate and co-operate in consultative processes to improve health and safety.
  • Observe safe working practices and as far as you are able, protect your own and others’ health and safety.
  • Ensure there are effective consultation and communication processes in place.
  • Monitor the operations and continuous improvement of the Monash Health Occupational Health and Safety Management System within area of responsibility and provide a safe and positive workplace.

About You

What you need:

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Working with Children’s Certificate
  • Radiation Use Licence
  • Dental registration with AHPRA

The incumbent must complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement.  This will be reviewed on a regular basis

  • Technical skills/knowledge/experience
  • Current operator license for use of dental x-ray equipment.
