Monash BreastScreen and Monash Health Imaging invite applications from qualified medical practitioners, registered in Australia, for two 12-month full time positions for breast focused Women’s Imaging Fellowship positions.
The Fellowship positions are most suitable for senior Radiology Trainees or recent graduates who would like to develop subspecialty expertise in Breast and Women’s Imaging, with experience gained through rotating between Monash BreastScreen and Monash Health Imaging, Women’s Imaging Division.

About Monash Health Imaging
Imaging at Monash Health incorporates a full range of services including CT, US, MRI, DEXA, PET, Nuclear Medicine, X-Ray, Lithotripsy, OPG, Mammography, Fluoroscopy and Interventional and Therapeutic imaging services at the Monash Medical Centre - Clayton; Monash Children's Hospital, Clayton; Dandenong Hospital, Dandenong; Casey Hospital, Berwick; Moorabbin Hospital, Bentleigh East; Kingston Centre, Cheltenham and the Pakenham Health Centre, Pakenham. Imaging also supports the Monash University Biomedical Imaging site including MRI and PET MRI. The service provides over 365,000 imaging examinations per year across all sites, currently employs approximately 500 EFT and has a gross operating budget in excess of $100M.
Monash Health Imaging Women’s Division is lead by subspeciality Radiologists who are passionate about improving health outcomes in women. The breast subspeciality offers the full complement of multi-modality breast imaging including Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM), mammography with tomosynthesis, breast MRI, breast ultrasound, breast biopsies under CEM-guidance, tomosynthesis-guidance, and breast MRI-guidance and ultrasound-guidance, and breast pre-operative localisations under ultrasound and mammography, all based at the Moorabbin Hospital site. Casey site offers mammography with tomosynthesis and breast ultrasound, and mammo-guided and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and pre-operative localisations. CEM implementation at Casey site is imminent.
Obstetrics and gynaecologic imaging is also within the Women’s Imaging Division, offering tertiary level obstetric and gynaecologic ultrasound, gynaecologic MRI and fetal MRI. The Monash Health Imaging program clearly defines its mission as the delivery of leading edge, evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services and research and education that meets the needs of our community and employees. About Monash BreastScreen
Monash BreastScreen is one of the largest BreastScreen Reading and Assessment Services (RAS) in Victoria. It provides screening, mammographic reading and assessment services for over 60,000 women per year in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. The RAS is located at Moorabbin hospital. There are eight fixed screening sites plus a mobile screening service that visits several locations in the catchment. More than 3000 women are recalled to the multidisciplinary assessment clinic for further imaging each year. As part of Monash Breast Services, Monash BreastScreen is a key component of an integrated continuum of multidisciplinary care for women from screening and diagnosis through assessment of symptoms, diagnosis and management of breast cancer and benign breast disease.
About the Role
This Fellowship provides intensive training in breast imaging suitable for a candidate who has a keen interest in breast imaging, population-based cancer screening, diagnosis, management and post treatment follow-up surveillance. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential. The fellow should be competent to work unsupervised in any screening or diagnostic mammography setting, performing US-guided and tomosynthesis-guided breast biopsies and pre-operative localisation procedures, and have experience in reporting breast MRI and performing MRI-guided breast biopsies at the completion of the Fellowship. A project which assists learning and serves to demonstrate the Fellow’s breast imaging skills is expected.
- You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective person-centred care, provide teaching and supervision of resident medical staff and students, and undertake training towards attaining Fellowship of the relevant College (if applicable). You will be required to undertake patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating consultant and patient care co-ordination.
- The BreastScreen rotation is completed at Moorabbin Hospital. The Monash Health Imaging position is based across all Monash Health campuses, but mainly Moorabbin Hospital and Casey Campus. Participation in the evening and weekend roster is expected during the Monash Health Imaging rotation.
