About Monash Haematology
Monash Haematology is a dynamic academic department that integrates the best evidence–base into routine patient care. It provides haematology care to a population of approximately 1.3 million, making it one of the largest services in Australia. Key leadership areas in clinical care and research include: (a) Lymphoma, myeloma and CLL (b) Acute leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes (c) Venous thromboembolic disease (d) Haemoglobinopathy (e) Obstetric Haematology and (f) Transfusion medicine. In addition to these established pillars, Monash Haematology has an emerging Cell Therapies Program including provision of autologous stem cell transplantation and CART therapy. Our clinical CART research program includes active studies in autoimmune or inflammatory disease (e.g., lupus) in addition to malignant indications. Monash also boasts one of the largest and newest dedicated clinical trial facilities in Australia. Our Haematology Trial unit currently oversees >100 trials from first-in-human to registrational studies – offering cutting edge treatment options across the full spectrum of malignant and ‘classical’ haematological diseases. Our diagnostic laboratory includes an established genetic and molecular pathology laboratory with accredited NGS-based mutation profiling and RNA-fusion panel assays.
Monash Haematology is an active collaborator with a number of research organisations including the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Hudson Institute of Medical Research, the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group (ALLG) and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Embedded within the School of Clinical Sciences, our preclinical and translational research program incorporates the ‘Blood Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory’, ‘Blood Cancer Biomarker Laboratory’, ‘Lymphoma Research Group’ and the ‘Leukaemia Modelling and Therapeutic Discovery Group’. These academic links provide Trainees with opportunities to extend their clinical experience within a scientific program.
