About Monash Haematology Research
Monash Haematology has a large clinical trials program and is currently involved in over 100 studies, particularly in areas of haematological malignancies and thrombosis. Other research areas include autoimmune conditions (e.g., ITP), haemoglobinopathy trials and transfusion research/supportive care.  The trial portfolio extends from phase 1 and first-in-human studies through to international registrational phase 3 trials. Our unit has an excellent international reputation and continues to grow, with an outstanding capacity to recruit due to the large Monash Health catchment and diverse patient population. Our clinical trial capability is further enhanced by location within the new Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP), a state-of-art facility purposed specifically for clinical trials.

About the Role

Monash Haematology is a dynamic academic department that integrates the best evidence–base into routine patient care. It provides haematology care to a population of approximately 1.3 million, making the largest service in Australia.  Key leadership areas in clinical care and research include: a) Lymphoma, myeloma and CLL b) Acute leukaemia and myelodysplastic syndromes c) Venous thromboembolic disease d) Haemoglobinopathy e) Obstetric Haematology and f) Transfusion medicine. In addition to these established pillars, Monash Haematology has an emerging Cell Therapies Program including provision of autologous stem cell transplantation and CART therapy – enabled by co-location with the cutting-edge GMP facilities of the Hudson Institute Cell Therapy Platform. In addition to malignant indications, our clinical CART research program includes active studies in autoimmune or inflammatory disease (e.g., lupus).

Monash Haematology is an active collaborator with a number of research organisations including the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (Monash University), Hudson Institute of Medical Research, the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group (ALLG) and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Embedded within the School of Clinical Sciences, our preclinical and translational research program incorporates the ‘Blood Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory’, ‘Blood Cancer Biomarker Laboratory’, ‘Lymphoma Research Group’ and the ‘Leukaemia Modelling and Therapeutic Discovery Group’. These academic links provide Fellows with opportunities to extend their clinical experience within thescientific program, including the potential to undertake a higher degree (e.g. PhD).
