About Gastroenterology Unit
Monash Gastroenterology is Victoria’s largest gastroenterology unit. We care for more than 3000 GI inpatients/year, provide 12,000 endoscopic procedures, and see over 20,000 outpatients per annum across a range of speciality clinics including IBD, general gastroenterology, IBD, hepatobiliary, endoscopy, liver, decompensated liver, fatty liver, and liver cancer.
We provide services at Clayton, Dandenong and Casey, with two ward teams (Clayton and Dandenong), three endoscopy units (Clayton, Dandenong and Casey), five outpatient sites, and a 24 hour registrar led but consultant driven GI bleeding roster. In addition we offer intestinal ultrasound, fibroscan, and infusion services. The team currently comprises 38 gastroenterologists, 7 accredited registrars, 5 Phd students and a large clinical trials unit providing ethics, GCP, and research nurse support for commercial drug trials, and both clinical and laboratory investigator initiated research.
The IBD group is headed by A/Prof Moore and consists of 15 consultants with IBD experience, 6 of whom have an MD or PhD and/or postdoctoral work in clinical or translational IBD, 2 clinical IBD nurses, clinical trial nurses, an IBD pharmacist and a clinic administrative assistant. We run 6 IBD clinics a week including general IBD, young adult, pregnancy, biologic, thiopurine monitoring and nurse led clinics. . Colorectal surgeons and paediatric gastroenterologists attend 3 of these clinics. We have approximately 1100 patients on biologic medications and run a fortnightly Virtual Biologic clinic and a fortnightly IBD MDT. There are dedicated IBD endoscopy lists for balloon dilatation and chromo-endoscopy.
About the Role
We seek an inflammatory bowel disease clinical fellow to join a thriving academic gastroenterology service at Monash Health in Melbourne’s South East.
The Unit has a strong interest in translational and immunological research pertaining to IBD, including T regulatory and stem cell therapies. The Gastroenterology unit has an active doctoral research program with 3 IBD research fellows, 1-2 hepatology fellows, a pancreatic fellow and 2-3 clinical fellows.
The 1 year job will involve:

Consult services to IBD inpatients under gastroenterology or colorectal units

Attendance at outpatient clinics weekly.

Attendance at a weekly endoscopy list focussed on IBD and dysplasia.

Review of patients receiving biologics in the infusion centre
-
Coordination of the IBDMDT with the IBD CNC
-
Coordination of the Virtual biologic clinic and annual VBIC audit

Annual IBD biologic service audit
-
A minimum of one clinical research project
The post is suited to those in year 3-4 of specialist training in gastroenterology who wish to gain more in-depth IBD experience including complex perianal care and IUS training. Applicants with FRACP and conjoint accreditation will join the paid out-of-hours bleeding rota.
Funding: Base salary $75,000. Opportunities exist for funded clinics and cover endoscopy lists for post FRACP candidates.
