About the Unit
Monash Medical Centre ICU:
- 27-bed unit operating as two pods staffed by two multidisciplinary teams:
- ICU Consultant, Senior registrar, Junior registrar , Resident
- Nurse team leader , bedside nurse
- Allied Health (Pharmacist ,Physiotherapist , Speech Pathologist, Dietitian , Social Worker)
- Over 1600 ICU admissions per year
- Case mix: General surgical and medical , subspecialty surgical and medical, neurosurgical, and obstetric adult patients
Victorian Heart Hospital ICU:
- 16-bed unit operates with similar multidisciplinary team structure as MMC ICU.
- Over 1000 ICU admissions per year
- ECMO
- Tier 3 centre in the Victorian ECMO service
Average 20 ECMO cases / year
About the role
- Location: MMC ICU, VHH ICU, and Monash Simulation
- Employment Type: Full-time (75% Clinical, 25% Non-Clinical FTE)
Monash Medical Centre and Victorian Heart Hospital are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Intensive Care Registrar to join our dynamic ICU team. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine high-level clinical responsibilities with a meaningful non-clinical portfolio. The successful candidate will contribute to simulation training, medical education, research, and quality and safety initiatives within the ICU. The successful applicant will also provide care to acutely unwell patients in the wider hospital as part of their role within the hospital’s Code Blue and Medical Emergency (MET) Teams.
Monash Simulation provides a broad range of simulation-based education and training for health professionals across every level of experience, both internal and external to Monash Health. This includes care of the deteriorating patient, airway emergencies, and clinical event debriefing. Monash Simulation has a strong track record in education, patient safety, and quality improvement.
The position includes 75% FTE in direct clinical care and 25% FTE allocated to non-clinical duties, specifically focusing on ICU simulation. The successful candidate will work closely with ICU consultants who are the designated leads in simulation, education, and patient safety, as well as the Head of Monash Simulation.
About You:
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:
- Experience in simulation training or facilitation.
- Experience in research or quality improvement projects.
- Formal qualifications or working towards a qualification in medical education or healthcare improvement.
Mandatory requirements of the role:
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Australian working rights
- Primary medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Employee Working with Children Check
- Current Driver’s Licence
Essential Intensive Care Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the CICM fellowship exam.
- Completion or near-completion of advanced training in Intensive Care Medicine (CICM or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience and competence in critical care clinical practice.
- A strong interest in education and/or quality and safety initiatives.
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
