About Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH)

Victorian Heart Hospital is a leading unified cross-campus cardiology service of Monash Health located at Dandenong Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, Casey Hospital and the newest premier site, Victorian Heart Hospital.

The Victorian Heart Hospital is Australia’s first dedicated cardiac hospital providing innovative, holistic patient-centred care for all Victorians. The first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and a standalone hospital, housing all on one campus, world-ranking Monash University and the Victorian Heart Institute, it combines world-class clinical care, research, education and training, representing a powerful model of collaboration, innovation and excellence.  A multi award winning building, it sets a new international architectural benchmark for cardiac hospital design in a purpose-built state-of-the-art facility with access to landscaped spaces exuding calm and tranquillity, to enhance the patient experience and positively impact clinical outcomes.

About the Unit

VHH is the largest cardiology service provider in Victoria, providing over 65,000 episodes of cardiological care to the community annually. We provide cardiology healthcare services to patients of all ages, from in-utero and newborns right through to our senior citizens. Our mission is to improve community wellbeing through outstanding cardiology healthcare services and to provide exceptional quality education for our future healthcare professionals

About the Role

Fellows will be exposed to the full range of diagnostic echocardiographic modalities including transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, and stress echocardiography utilising both exercise and pharmacological stress. We are a large tertiary referral centre with the 4 echo laboratories (based at VHH, Clayton, Dandenong and Casey) currently performing more than 19,000 studies per year, including approximately 600 transoesophageal and 1500 stress studies. The echo training program is well established, with more than a dozen dedicated adult echo cardiologists who are actively involved in teaching fellows. In the context of Monash Medical Centre being a tertiary referral centre for obstetric services, the echo lab also offers paediatric echo and has a significant population of paediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease. Fellows have the opportunity to interact with the paediatric cardiologists and gain experience in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease.

The advance cardiac imaging centre at VHH also performs/reports more than 4,00 Cardiac CT scans per year in close collaboration with onsite radiologists.
