About the Opportunity  

Monash Health are seeking to appoint an excellent clinical registrar and medical educator, who shares our passion in shaping and delivering PGY1 (Intern) and PGY2/3 (HMO) learning. This exciting role within Monash Doctors Education (MDE) will be part of the team working to implement the new National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training. The successful candidate will be highly motivated to make a difference to our most junior doctors starting their medical career at Monash Health. The role is fully funded by MDE, with 0.5 EFT in MDE and 0.5 EFT in the registrar’s usual clinical specialty. 

 

About the Role 

You will spend 0.5 EFT in your medical education role and 0.5 EFT in clinical work in your chosen specialty (funded by MDE; details negotiated between MDE and clinical unit). This will allow you to undertake your vocational training while developing expertise in health professional education.

Reporting to the Head of Medical Education, Monash Doctors Education (MDE), you will be part of the project team responsible for the implementation of the New National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training. The Australian Medical Council has developed a new educational framework that will transform PGY1 and PGY2 doctors training during their two years as a doctor. The new framework will deliver greater direct observation of clinical work and individualised learning, incorporate new assessment methods including Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)with the ultimate aim of enhancing the care provided to our multicultural community. Additionally, the new framework describes enhanced competency in culturally safe care.  

  

Working closely with the MDE Implementation team and MDE more broadly, your MDE responsibilities will include: 

  • Work in the National Framework project implementation team to implement, evaluate, refine and embed education processes in line with best practice and the requirements of the Framework 

  • Design and deliver education and training in various contexts, analyse assessment data, create resources, and assist with procedural skills workshops 

  • Contribute to medical education research  

  • Membership of the PGY1-3+ Education and Training Committee; and the Junior Medical Staff Advisory and Co-design Committee (JMARC). 

  • Contribute to education research to build the evidence base for high quality teaching and learning in the clinical setting 

  

About You:

  • A broad range of PGY1 and PGY2+ experience, at minimum  

  • A highly respected, practising clinician. 

  • Models high quality educational practice including teaching and supervision 

  • Experience in quality improvement activities, implementing and evaluating change (desirable) 

  • Qualifications in Health Professions Education(desirable)         

 

Other Requirements:

  • Current Drivers Licence 

  • All candidates will require Australian working rights. 

  • a clear Police Check conducted within the last three months 

  • a current Victorian Employee Working with Children’s Check (or proof of payment for same)
