About Monash Medical Centre (Clayton) & Victorian Heart Hospital – Intensive Care Units
Monash Medical Centre Intensive Care Unit is a 26-bed unit operating as two pods run by independent Multi-disciplinary teams. The Unit has a dedicated outreach consultant role Monday to Friday in hours. The unit is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for General Training (Core Intensive Care /C24) as well as fulfilling the CICM requirements for subspecialty exposure to thoracic surgical, Neurology and Neurosurgical Intensive Care. The Monash Medical Centre Intensive Care Unit also provides a state-wide Obstetric Intensive Care Referral service, a Renal / Renal-Pancreas Transplant service and supports a comprehensive range of medical and surgical subspecialties.
The Victorian Heart Hospital Intensive Care unit is a 16-bed ICU specialising in cardiology/Cardiac surgical ICU. The ICU is currently funded for 8 beds and run by a multidisciplinary teams similar to Monash Medical Centre. Victorian Heart Hospital ICU has a dedicated outreach and ECMO team 24/7. The unit is affiliated with Monash Medical Centre and accredited by CICM for Cardiac surgical unit. The VHH receives %20 of the states STEMI activations and performs nearly 800 cardiac surgeries per year.

Combined training program with Sonographers and Intensive Care Specialist with special interest and further qualifications in Critical Care US & ECHO

Research – Involvement with ANZICS and Canadian Trials group studies, Investigator initiated trials and first in human/first in ICU device trials. Supervision for TY lead projects can be supported

Mechanical Circulatory Support including IABP, ECMO and Impella

Education - Part 1 and 2 CICM preparation

Organ Donation

Infection prevention

Specialty liaison portfolios for Cardiothoracic surgery, Neurosurgery, Infectious diseases, Anaesthesia, Emergency, and Obstetrics

About the role
This Transition Year fellow position at Monash Medical Centre and Victorian Heart Hospital has been developed in accordance with the college requirement to allow completion of training and admission to the College of Intensive Care Medicine. The aim is to introduce consultant activities into the trainee’s experience in a structured manner with progressively decreasing supervision, in preparation for life as a junior consultant. The structured introduction will focus on:

Development of a non-clinical portfolio

We have a variety of non-clinical portfolios available and aim to tailor the year to best suit the successful candidate. Opportunities including advanced Ultrasound, ECHO and TOE, Education, Quality, and Research.
About You:
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:

Must be eligible for a Transition Year Fellowship (as defined by CICM)

Excellent communication skills

Breadth of experience across different ICU environments

Willing to invest in non-clinical activities
Mandatory requirements of the role:

Primary medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent

All candidates will require Australian working rights

Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
