About the Role:
The Aboriginal Cultural Engagement Officer is a supernumerary (non-clinical) role that provides cultural and professional guidance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses, Midwives and Cadets transitioning into the workforce. Working under the supervision and delegation of the Graduate & RUSON/M Workforce Manager you will:

Contribute to creating culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nursing, Midwifery & Cadet employees.

Advocate for culturally safe partnerships and promote Monash Health’s Strategic Plan inclusive of the Aboriginal Health Strategy.
- Develop an understanding of the Graduate, RUSON/M and Cadet programs and the functions of the Monash Health Bureau through participation in workforce planning activities.

Foster meaningful relationships with the Aboriginal Health and Engagement Team
In addition to cultural guidance, including communicating with internal and external stakeholders, the incumbent will gain exposure to key aspects of the Monash Health Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Team.
About You:
To be eligible for the position candidates must:

Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (Genuine Occupational Requirement under Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic))

Be a Registered Nurse or Midwife with demonstrated post-registration experience

Demonstrate a strong understanding of Aboriginal health issues and cultural safety principles

Demonstrate and understand challenges and opportunities experienced by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employees

Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate effectively and sensitively
