About the Role 

As the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Lead, you will play a pivotal role in strenthening culturally safe and responsive public health services across the South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU).  You will act as a key leader, liaison and cultural advisor, ensuring that SEPHU's programs, partnerships and service delivery genuinely reflect the needs, priorities and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. 

 

Working closely with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), local partners, the Department of Health and Monash health's Aboriginal Health Engagement team, you will support self-determined approaches to public health and contribute to the design of a culturally grounded Aboriginal Public Health model. This role sits within SEPHU's Prevention and Partnerships team, with strong connections across all program areas. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic Aboriginal Health and Engagement activites within SEPHU 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ACCHOs, community leaders and relevant stakeholders 

  • Ensure cutlutrally safe, inclusive and responsive approaches across all SEPHU programs 

  • Facilitate opportunities for community input, feedback and co-design in public health planning and delivery 

  • Strengthen cultural awareness and capability across SEPHU teams 

  • Lead the collection and reporting of key performance measures related to Aboriginal public health outcomes

 

About You 

Qualifications/ registrations/ licenses: 

  • Relevant qualification in community services, human services, human welfare, community development or similar  

Technical skills/ knowledge/ experience: 

  • Identify and be accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person  

  • Proven experience in working with Aboriginal organisations, government agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities  

  • Demonstrated leadership in service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

  • Experience in cultural exchange and development within an organisation  

  • Understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and systemic issues facing contemporary Aboriginal children and families  

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills  

  • Experience in project development (desirable) 

  • Proficient in Microsoft office and Microsoft 365 platforms (desirable)
