Lead our team of Aboriginal midwives to cover paternity leave. We run Bupup clinic at Clayton, Dandenong and Pakenham. Provide support to those who are high risk.

About Us

This position sits within the Monash Women’s and Newborn Program. There is a strong line linking to our Aboriginal health Team to ensure cultural support and collaboration.

The small team of Aboriginal midwives is to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families with a supportive and culturally appropriate service whilst the woman is pregnancy, through birth and for the baby until 6 weeks of age. Where family care is involved this role may at times be required to support a family beyond the usual six weeks of the postnatal period. This ensures families feel supported through health concerns or difficult transition to parenting. The role necessitates the establishment of close working relationships with all maternity services across Monash Health and Koori Maternity Services, Dandenong and District Aborigines Cooperative Limited (DDACL), Healthy Mothers and Health babies, and First Peoples Health and Wellbeing.

 

About the Role

Join our team as the Aboriginal Midwife Coordinator on a part time (64 hours/ 4 days a week), fixed term until 6th June 2027, based at Clayton and working across Clayton, Dandenong, Casey Hospital and Pakenham clinic.  In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of the Clinical Midwife Consultant – Practice Enhancement and working with the broader Monash Women’s and Newborn team.

  • Provide pregnancy care at the Bupup clinics and provide secondary support to those with higher needs
  • Assist families with access to care
  • Touch base with women on admission when working
  • Carry out Postnatal in the home visits
  • Review and report on outcomes for the families accessing care

 

About You

To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:

  • Well-developed knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, kinship and health issues
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families is highly desirable
  • Experience in providing pregnancy care in clinics
  • Collaborates well with the broader multi-disciplinary team
  • Registered Nurse and Midwife and current registration with Ahpra
  • Have a valid Working With Children’s Check
