Administrative Officer – Emergency Department, Monash Medical Centre Clayton

About the Emergency Department 

The Emergency Department at Monash Medical Centre manages more than 85,000 presentations annually across adult and paediatric patient groups. The department comprises 115 treatment cubicles, nine resuscitation bays, and purpose‑built decontamination and isolation facilities. 

 

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and professional Administrative Officer to provide essential administrative and customer service support within a high‑acuity, fast‑paced emergency care environment. This position is integral to the efficient operation of the department and contributes directly to the delivery of safe, timely and patient‑centred care. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurate registration and maintenance of patient information 

  • Coordination of patient admissions, discharges, and transfers 

  • Provision of administrative and clerical support to clinical and operational staff 

  • Ensuring respectful, compassionate, and efficient service to patients and families 

 

About You 

The successful candidate will demonstrate: 

  • Availability to work across a 24/7 roster 

  • High‑level communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Strong organisational capability and attention to detail 

  • Ability to perform effectively in a busy and rapidly changing environment 

  • Proficiency in computer systems with advanced keyboard skills 

  • Knowledge of medical terminology (advantageous) 

  • Experience with EMR (FirstNet) or iPM (advantageous) 

 

Requirements:

  • Available to work a 24/7 roster, including weekends and public holidays 

  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare administration 

  • Strong, supportive references from previous or current managers 

  • Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team 

  • Capacity to learn Monash Health systems and processes quickly 

  • Valid police check 

  • Valid working with children checks 

  • Right to work in Australia 

  • Can work across a 24/7 roster 

  • Communicates clearly and compassionately 

  • Is reliable, adaptable, and organised 

  • Picks up systems and processes quickly 

  • Has great keyboard and computer skills 

  • (Bonus) Knows EMR, FirstNet or iPM 

  • (Bonus) Understands medical terminology
