About Us 

Monash Health Pathology is an integral part of Monash Health. It is the largest public provider of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 6 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional laboratories located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There is currently 18 collection locations based within the hospital sites and community settings. Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services.  

You will be joining Monash Health at an exciting time as we work in partnership with Alfred Health to be the premier shared public pathology service in Victoria.  As a member of the pathology team you will be helping shape the direction of the partnership.  

 

About the Role 

An opportunity exists for an experienced administrative professional to join the Anatomical Pathology Department at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. 

This role involves handling, fulfilling, and dispatching requests for patient care and research/trial enquiries via email and telephone. The position also includes a range of officebased duties such as assisting pathologists, block and slide filing, case registration within the pathology laboratory information system, and audio typing. Following appropriate training, the successful applicant will be expected to perform duties with minimal supervision, including: 

  • Managing email requests for patient material 

  • Accurate and efficient transcription of audio files for biopsy, cytology, and autopsy reports 

  • Data entry and specimen registration 

  • Identifying and resolving issues related to unlabelled or inadequately labelled specimens in accordance with established protocols 

  • Working independently or as part of a team under minimal supervision 

  • General office duties including photocopying, filing, and archiving records 

  • Answering and assisting incoming calls in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner 

  • Releasing results to clinicians in accordance with departmental confidentiality guidelines 

  • Printing, mailing, and faxing reports as required 

  • Adhering to Infection Control, OH&S, and safety guidelines specific to the unit 

 

About You 

The successful applicant will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organisation, and effective communication skills. The ability to work collaboratively within a team is essential. Key skills and attributes include: 

  • Strong logical reasoning, problemsolving, and organisational skills 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

  • Ability to follow and adhere to established procedures 

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal scientific communication 

  • Proven ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a demanding clinical environment
