About the Department/ Program
Monash Children’s Allied Health provides specialised, multidisciplinary care to infants, children and families across inpatient, community and specialty services. Our team includes Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Child Life Therapy and a broad range of Allied Health disciplines, working together to deliver holistic, family-centred care.
Art Therapy is delivered across a range of settings, with a strong focus on trauma-informed, patient-centred care and supporting the emotional, psychological and developmental needs of children and families.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist, evidence-based Art Therapy assessment and intervention within your scope of practice.
- Use your specialist knowledge to support colleagues and contribute to high-quality, consumer-centred care.
- Supervise and support Grade 1 clinicians, students and Allied Health colleagues.
- Contribute to education, research, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to innovate and improve Art Therapy practice and service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with patients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
About the Role
Bring your creativity, clinical expertise and passion for Art Therapy to Monash Children’s Hospital!
Join our team as an Art Therapist (Grade 2) on a part time, ongoing opportunity (0.6 EFT, 45.6 hours per fortnight) based at Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton.
Use of specialist art and creative therapies to support the wellbeing, coping and healthcare experience of paediatric patients and families.
Art Therapists at Monash Children’s Hospital:
- Deliver specialist, evidence-based Art Therapy.
- Support wellbeing, relaxation, pain management and coping.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide supervision and guidance to Grade 1 clinicians and students.
- Contribute to education, research and service development.
At times, Art Therapists may be required to travel between Monash Health sites.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will bring clinical expertise, creativity, compassion and initiative, with demonstrated experience using art modalities therapeutically, ideally in paediatric or hospital settings. You will be committed to child- and family-centred care, work confidently within multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to education, mentoring, research, quality improvement and innovation. Strong communication skills, professional judgement and a commitment to evidence-based practice are also essential.
What you need:
- Postgraduate degree or Master’s in Art Therapy or Creative Arts Therapy from an approved training course.
- Eligible for professional membership with the Australian, New Zealand, and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA).
