About the Department

Aviary Ward (4B) is a 28-bed specialist paediatric ward at Monash Children’s Hospital, providing care across Neurology, Adolescent Medicine and Paediatric Rehabilitation. The ward offers nurses the opportunity to work across both acute and sub-acute care, supporting children and young people with complex neurological conditions, adolescent health needs and rehabilitation goals. Working within a multidisciplinary team, nurses have the opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills while supporting patients and families through recovery, rehabilitation and improved health outcomes.

 

About the Role

Join our team as an Associate Nurse Manager on a part time, ongoing or fixed-term (12 month) basis to work at Monash Children's Hospital, based in Clayton. In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of Mandie Lehmann, Nurse Manager and working with the broader 4B Aviary nursing team.

 

You will assist the Nurse Manager with the day-to-day operations, clinical outcomes and leadership of the unit, including:

  • Coordinating unit activities such as workload delegation, roster and leave management, and nurse-to-patient ratios
  • Assisting and deputising for the Nurse Manager as directed, including monitoring patients for critical changes and escalating issues of concern
  • Providing leadership, supervision and support for employees, including performance feedback, mentoring and preceptorship
  • Facilitating efficient nursing handovers and coordinating patient admission, discharge flow, and transitions of care

This role requires the ability to work a rotating roster across day, evening and night duty shifts, and the flexibility to move across multiple Monash Health sites as required.

 

About You

To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:

  • Mandatory Demonstrated recent leadership and management experience, including change and safety leadership, coaching and development, and managing performance
  • Proven people and communication skills, including relationship building, conflict resolution and facilitating open discussions
  • The ability to drive a person-centred culture, with adaptability, innovative thinking and application of evidence into practice
  • Superior organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Mandatory requirements of the role:

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Post-graduate studies in management or leadership (desirable)
  • Membership of a professional nursing association (desirable)
