About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for two part-time Grade 2 Child Life Therapist positions based at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton:
Position 1: 0.6 EFT (22.8 hours per week), ongoing
Position 2: 0.2 EFT (7.6 hours per week), ongoing

These roles will provide Child Life Therapy services to infants, children, and adolescents across Monash Children’s Hospital, with flexibility to work across a range of clinical areas including paediatric oncology, rehabilitation, and other inpatient and outpatient services as required.
Child Life Therapy aims to reduce the stress and anxiety for children, young people and their families that can be associated with hospitalisation. Child Life Therapists specialise in child development to support and empower children, young people and their families by helping them understand their hospital treatment through:
- Using specialist knowledge and skills in child development to provide support and distraction during procedures.
- Opportunities for play to support wellbeing within the hospital and facilitate medical play to teach children new coping strategies.
- Providing regular training and support to other health professionals around procedural support and distraction, preparing children for medical procedures and strategies to support children’s wellbeing in the healthcare environment.
- Working as part of an integrated Allied Health team, this role may also be required to flexibly provide services to other units and teams within Monash Children’s Hospital.

Child Life Therapists form part of a dynamic Allied Health team providing high quality, equitable service to all children and adolescents across the Children’s Program. You will be joining a friendly and welcoming team of Child Life Therapists with a focus on strength-based practice and family-centred care, to support the psychosocial, developmental and emotional wellbeing needs of patients and their families.
Monash Children’s Hospital provides a Child Life Therapy service across all areas of paediatrics, including paediatric emergency, diagnostic imaging, pathology, acute inpatients and Murrumbek Casey Early Parenting Centre.
About You:

What You Need:
- Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood or Primary Teaching (4 years full time)
OR
- An equivalent undergraduate or postgraduate qualification that includes at least two years of formal study in child development (This may include allied health professionals with qualifications that meet the child development study requirement.)
- Eligibility for professional membership with the Association of Child Life Therapists Australia (ACLTA) is desirable
