About the Role:
Join our team as a Grade 2 Child Life Therapist in a part-time (22.8 hrs a week), 2 year fixed term position, working at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton.
This position will provide clinical services to infants, children and adolescents, with a primary focus in paediatric oncology. As part of an integrated Allied Health team, the role may also be required to support other units and teams within Monash Children’s Allied Health Services.
Child Life Therapy aims to reduce the stress and anxiety for children, young people and their families that can be associated with hospitalisation. Child Life Therapists specialise in child development to support and empower children, young people and their families to cope in the healthcare environment through:
· Provision of evidence-based interventions to promote developmental, social and emotional wellbeing
· Delivery of developmentally appropriate procedural preparation and support
· Collaborating with children, families and the healthcare team to identify and implement effective coping strategies
· Providing opportunities for play, including medical play, to support continued development and emotional wellbeing within the hospital environment
· Delivering training and support to healthcare professionals in procedural preparation, distraction techniques, and strategies to promote children’s wellbeing during medical procedures and within healthcare settings.

Child Life Therapist form part of a dynamic Allied Health team providing high quality, equitable service to all children and adolescents across the Children’s Program. You will be joining a friendly and welcoming team of Child Life Therapists with a focus on strength based practice with family-centred care, to support the psychosocial, development and emotional wellbeing needs of patients and their families.
Monash Children’s Hospital provides a Child Life Therapy service across paediatrics, including paediatric emergency, diagnostic imagining, pathology, acute inpatients and Murrumbek Casey Early Parenting Centre.

What you need:
· Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood or Primary Teaching (4 years full time) or equivalent postgraduate qualification if either undergraduate or postgraduate qualification includes at least 2 years study of child development
· Eligible for full professional membership of the Association of Child Life Therapists Australia
