About the Role:

Join our team as a Child Life Therapist on a part time (45.6 hrs per fortnight) ongoing to work at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical care within a multidisciplinary healthcare setting to support children and families during their hospital experience. The role involves providing expert intervention, supporting junior clinicians, and contributing to service development through quality improvement and education initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independent Clinical Practice – Deliver safe and evidence-based assessment and interventions to support children’s coping and development.
  • Clinical Support & Mentorship – Provide supervision, mentoring, and training for junior Child Life Therapists and students.
  • Collaboration & Patient-Centred Care – Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient experiences and outcomes.
  • Service Development & Quality Improvement – Contribute to education, policy development, and clinical practice improvements to strengthen the Child Life Therapy service.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel may be required across multiple Monash Health sites.

About Us:

Child Life Therapist form part of a dynamic Allied Health team providing high quality, equitable service to all children and adolescents across the Children’s Program. You will be joining a friendly and welcoming team of Child Life Therapists with a focus on strength based practice with family-centred care, to support the psychosocial, development and emotional wellbeing needs of patients and their families.

Monash Children’s Hospital provides a Child Life Therapy service across all areas of paediatrics, including paediatric emergency, diagnostic imagining, pathology and acute inpatients.

About You:

To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:

  • Extensive experience using developmentally appropriate, evidence-based interventions to support children in healthcare settings.
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in Child Life Therapy service provision.
  • Strong skills in mentoring, education, and quality improvemnt to enhance clinical standards.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively within multidiscilinary teams and contribute to service innovation.

What you need:

  • Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood or Primary Teaching (4 years full time) or equivalent postgraduate qualification if either undergraduate or postgraduate qualification includes at least 2 years study of child development
  • Eligible for full professional membership of the Association of Child Life Therapists Australia
