Our Journey:

In January 2024 Monash Children’s Hospital opened a brand new Early Parenting Centre (EPC) in Casey, providing specialist support for Victorian families with children from birth to four years of age.  The centre delivers flexible, targeted services that aim to enhance the parent-child relationship and will support parents with strategies to achieve their parenting goals in areas such as sleep and settling, child behaviour and parent and child health and wellbeing.  The EPC provides the following core services to Victorian families:

 

  • Residential services – 24-hour multi-day centre-based intensive early parenting programs
  • Day-stay service – centre-based day programs provided at EPCs or at outreach locations
  • Community visits– follow on service from day stay or residential and occasionally in place of a day stay program if appropriate.
  • Telehealth and web-based services as a stand-alone or complementary modality.

 

The centre at Casey houses 4 day stay beds along with 10 overnight beds and is supported by a wide multidisciplinary team striving for positive outcomes for Victorian families.

 

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant to work full time Monday to Friday.

 

About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Early Parenting Centre (EPC), you will undertake a holistic view of family needs and care plans, including care coordination and discharge planning for families with more complex needs.  The CNC role combines clinical expertise with leadership and educational responsibilities to empower families in their early parenting journey and to equip them with the skills and strategies to support their parenting goals.  As part of this role you will be required to:

  • Conduct comprehensive screening, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in collaboration with families and the wider team to achieve goals and health outcomes
  • Provide lactation support, guidance and education coinciding with the promotion of the Baby Friendly Health Initiative the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and The World Health Organization Global Strategy for Infant and Young Children Feeding
  • Act as an expert clinical resource for the staff and as a key consultant for families utilising the services in the centre
  • Provide ongoing advice on current and new practices that will impact on new directions for the Early Parenting Centre

 

 

About You

If you are a highly experienced and compassionate Maternal and Child Health Nurse with a passion for early parenting and infant care, we encourage you to apply for the Clinical Nurse Consultant role with our new Early Parenting Centre.  As the CNC in the EPC, you will have extensive, and highly specialised, knowledge allowing you to advise families, MCH Nurses, Registered Nurses, Registered Midwives, Enrolled Nurses and Early Parenting Practitioners (EPPs) and ensure that our services are evidence-based, patient-centred, and compassionate. 

  • You understand the unique challenges faced in early parenting and you pride yourself on your ability to build strong relationships with those you support
  • You are passionate about having an impact on the early health and wellbeing outcomes for families
  • You enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team, both internally and externally, to promote positive health outcomes for families  
  • You will be a strong leader and have excellent communication skills

 

What you need:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1); and a Registered Midwife
  • Accredited postgraduate degree/diploma (or equivalent) in maternal and child health nursing and /or currently enrolled or progressing towards this qualification

 

Desirable

  •  IBCLC certification and maintains this by examination and/or continuing education recognition points (CERPS) as required by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE)
  • Post graduate qualification in Paediatric Nursing/ Midwifery/ Mental Health Nursing /Community Nursing
  • Clinical Nurse Consultancy experience desirable in
    • Early Parenting Centres
    • Maternal and child and family health
    • Working with vulnerable and/or at-risk children and families
    • Working with high needs children and families
