About the Role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant, Paediatric Endocrinology is an advanced nursing role that combines clinical expertise with leadership and educational skills. The role will provide expert clinical care and be an integral part of the Paediatric Endocrinology team and Monash Children’s Program.   

This role is a part time ongoing position at 48 hour / fortnight. 

 

About the Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes team

The Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (DPED) team provides a tertiary referral inpatient service and outpatient clinics for children up to 18 years of age with diabetes, endocrine and growth disorders. One-third of children newly diagnosed with diabetes in Victoria every year are managed at Monash Children’s Hospital. Children with disorders of sexual development and puberty and are part of a state-wide service for children with disorders of sexual differentiation. The department also services one of two paediatric growth clinics in Victoria and outreach services in Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula.  Emergency inpatient care includes paediatric intensive care unit admissions and inpatient consultations for other units for endocrinology and diabetes patients aged under 19 years. The department also provides neonatal endocrine intensive care unit ward consultations. 

 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Consultant to work within the Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes team and  play a pivotal role in the coordination of care for Paediatric Endocrinology patients and their families.

The role will be responsible for triage, assessment, referrals and navigation for Paediatric Endocrinology patients specifically:

  • Conducting comprehensive clinical assessment utilising advanced paediatric examination skills and a range of evidence-based tools and frameworks
  • Utilising advanced clinical assessment skills to develop treatment plans and make recommendations for collaborative, multidisciplinary care
  • Providing consultation for ED Endocrinology patients within Monash Children’s Program 
  • Providing clinical advice and support to Hospital in the Home, PICU/NICU, Emergency Department and ward nursing staff to facilitate appropriate care and enhance awareness of procedures and protocols

 

About You

Your attributes and desired experience: 

  • Extensive recent and relevant clinical experience in Paediatric Endocrinology demonstrating appropriate competencies and skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking, problem solving skills and evidence-based practice in the provision of care for infants, children and adolescents diagnosed with complex endocrine conditions
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills 
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) 
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Paediatric Nursing or working toward (desirable) 
  • Member of Endocrine Nurses Society of Australia (desirable) 
  • Member of Australasian Paediatric Endocrine Group (desirable)
