The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Paediatric General Medicine is an advanced nursing role that combines clinical expertise with leadership and educational skills. The role will provide expert clinical care and be an integral part of the Paediatric General Medicine team and Monash Children’s Program.

 

About the Paediatric General Medicine team

The Paediatric General Medicine team provides inpatient care across the three Monash Children’s Hospital sites Casey, Dandenong, and Clayton – with outpatient clinics at these sites and at Pakenham. The team is responsible for the general medical care of inpatients and outpatients from newborn to 18 years of age, the General Paediatrics Team has expertise in diagnosing and treating acute medical conditions. As well as specialising in the coordination of care for complex medical conditions in collaboration with subspecialty and Allied Health teams as required. 

 

About the Role 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Consultant to to work within the Paediatric General Medicine team.  and  play a pivotal role in the coordination of care for paediatric patients and their families under the Paediatric General Medical team by streamlining care delivery and support timely transition from inpatient to hospital in the home or community-based services or direct discharge. 

The role will be responsible for triage, assessment, referrals and navigation for Paediatric General Medicine patients specifically:

  • Conducting comprehensive clinical assessment utilising advanced paediatric examination skills and a range of evidence-based tools and frameworks
  • Utilising advanced clinical assessment skills to develop treatment plans and make recommendations for collaborative, multidisciplinary care
  • Providing consultation for Paediatric General Medicine patients within Monash Children’s Program and the Paediatric General Medicine department
  • Providing clinical advice and support to PICU/NICU, Emergency Department and ward nursing staff to facilitate appropriate care and enhance awareness of procedures and protocols

 

About You

Your attributes and desired experience: 

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills 

  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams 

  • Experience in assessing and managing children and families with complex behavioral and developmental presentations 

  • Experience working with Child Protection Teams 

  • Experience working with children from vulnerable and trauma exposed backgrounds 

  • An understanding of the social determinants of health 

What you need: 

  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking, problem solving skills and evidence-based practice in the provision of medical care for children

  • Extensive recent and relevant clinical experience in paediatric nursing

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) 

Desirable:  

  • Post graduate qualification in paediatric Nursing (or working towards)
