Monash Health Gastroenterology Consultant 

We seek a gastroenterologist to join a vibrant and thriving academic gastroenterology service at Monash Health. Monash Health provides healthcare across south eastern Melbourne, uniquely integrating primary, secondary and tertiary health services, as well as world-renowned research and teaching facilities in one organisation. Our Journey

Monash Gastroenterology is Victoria’s largest gastroenterology unit. We care for 3000 inpatients per year, provide 10,000 endoscopic procedures and see 18,000 outpatients per annum across a range of speciality clinics including IBD, general gastroenterology, hepatobiliary, endoscopy, liver, decompensated liver, NASH, liver cancer.  In addition, we offer intestinal ultrasound, fibro scan, and infusion services. We provide services at Clayton, Dandenong and Casey, with two ward teams (Clayton and Dandenong), three endoscopy units (Clayton, Dandenong and Casey), five outpatient sites, and a 24 hour registrar led, but consultant driven GI bleeding service for Clayton and Dandenong. The team currently comprises thirty-six gastroenterologists, 5 accredited and 2 non-accredited registrars I advanced training, 5 research fellows, 6 junior medical staff, and a large clinical trials unit providing regulatory support, GCP, and research nurse support for commercial drug trials and both clinical and laboratory investigator initiated research.  

 

About the Role

The Gastroenterology Consultant will be expected to provide care to patients in endoscopy, hospital wards, infusional suites, and in ambulatory care clinics and suites within Monash Health. Successful applicants must be accredited to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy and maintain competencies required by GESA and RACP, including participation in the colonoscopy re-certification and CPD programs. There is also opportunity to participate in research and quality assurance activities. This role would be suited to a qualified general gastroenterologist and to those who have further advanced training in IBD or hepatology. The position involves (various sessions). The role will involve: 

  • Supervision of inpatient services in conjunction with the registrar and junior medical officers  

  • Provision of inpatient consultation to other hospital units  

  • Delivery of endoscopic services at Monash Clayton, Dandenong and Casey Hospitals.  

  • Attendance at weekly hospital and community-based outpatient clinics.  

  • Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings based on subspecialty interest.  

  • Participation at the weekly Clinical Sciences meeting/journal club plus fortnightly pathology/ radiology review and teaching sessions  

  • Participation in the 24 hour on call roster for admissions, inpatient services, and urgent endoscopy for patients at Clayton and Dandenong.  

 

About You

Required qualifications include:

  • MBBS (or equivalent) FRACP, CCCTRGE accreditation
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
