About Monash Newborn
Monash Newborn provides neonatal services to support over 10,500 births a year and is responsible for the provision of neonatal services for Monash Health within the Monash Children’s Hospital Clayton, Dandenong, Sandringham and Casey campuses, forming the largest neonatal service in Victoria. About 4,500 babies are born each year at Clayton to a selected high-risk maternity population. Clayton is the Women’s and Newborn Level 6 facility, providing maternity care for healthy women and for those with complex maternal and/or fetal needs. This includes subspecialty care in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Fetal Diagnosis. Monash Women’s is a member of the Victorian Fetal Therapy Service (VFTS), and is the only site in Victoria to provide in utero laser surgery for fetal conditions such as twin-twin transfusion syndrome.
The neonatal unit in Monash Children’s Hospital Clayton has a combined neonatal intensive care and special care capacity of 60 cots, the largest in Victoria. The unit is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians to provide the maximum period of 2 years advanced training (perinatal and surgical) in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine. Supported by a comprehensive range of paediatric specialty and statewide services at Monash Children’s Hospital, the neonatal service is able to provide the full range of medical and surgical care of the newborn from 22 weeks’ gestational age onwards and with the exception only of ECMO and cardiac surgery. Consultant Neonatologists have opportunities for leadership and ongoing skills development in clinical care, quality improvement, education and training, and translational research through a close relationship with The Ritchie Centre and Hudson Institute of Medical Research located in Monash Medical Centre, and the Department of Paediatrics, Monash University.
About the Role
This is a full-time, fixed term, parental leave cover opportunity to join our team.
You will support and assist the Director Monash Newborn Clayton in the provision of a high quality neonatal service, consistent with Monash Health values.
- Provide clinical leadership in patient care to ensure we achieve excellent care and timely communication with family and other care providers.
- Provide supervision of trainee doctors, neonatal nurse practitioners and medical students and support open communication, including escalation of clinical and non-clinical matters.
- Be immediately available for urgent consultation and assistance in resuscitation and subsequent management of critically ill patients.
- Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team, with open communication and collaborative working relationships.
- Actively participate in Quality and Safety and Quality Improvement processes to ensure that patients receive high quality services and continuity of care, and that high quality clinical standards, clinical outcomes, risk management approaches and accreditation requirements are achieved.

About You

- Motivated to be accountable for and manage specific portfolios within the team.
What you need:
- Be a legally qualified medical practitioner, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College or Physicians (RACP), with subspecialty qualification in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine, or equivalent, including maintenance of CPD and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration.
