About Paediatric Rheumatology
The Paediatric Rheumatology department at Monash Children's Hospital (MCH) provides patient-centred care to children and adolescents with a wide variety of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system as well as conditions of non-infectious multi-system inflammation including Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Juvenile Dermatomyositis, vasculitis, and periodic fever syndromes. The Paediatric Rheumatology team comprises Paediatric Rheumatologists, junior medical staff including HMO and ATR, a Paediatric Rheumatology nurse specialist, and specialist Allied Health practitioners including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry staff. The Paediatric Rheumatology department at MCH provides a range of clinical services including: inpatient care to children admitted with Paediatric Rheumatic conditions; inpatient consultation service for teams requiring Rheumatology input in the care of children admitted to MCH; consultation service for paediatric staff requiring assistance in the care of children at other Monash Health sites (such as Dandenong and Casey Hospitals); ambulatory care in the outpatient setting; day medical admissions for medication infusions; and joint injections to children requiring steroid injection for treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
About the Role
- Consultant paediatric Rheumatologist or adult Rheumatologist or General Paediatrician, Monash Children’s Hospital
- Sabbatical Leave Cover: 4 Oct 2026 – 4 April 2027
- 0.1 EFT (3.5 hours weekly)
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary paediatric rheumatology team. Specific responsibilities include:

- Management of children with clinical problems within the scope of paediatric rheumatology.
- Attendance at outpatient clinic:
- weekly specialist general Paediatric Rheumatology clinic (Monday 9:00-12:30);
- Consultation support for junior medical staff and Specialist Nurse in managing outpatient enquiries.
- Participation in unit administrative tasks including but not limited to triage of referrals.
- Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, radiology meetings and education meetings.
- Provide clinical leadership through active involvement in patient care.
- Provide high quality Paediatric Rheumatology clinical care at Monash Children’s Hospital, consistent with the Monash Health values, including collaboration with Paediatric Rheumatology consultant staff, junior medical staff and nursing staff in managing patient care.
- Contribute to ongoing service improvement and clinical and workforce innovation to ensure Monash Health provides high quality accessible Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Department Services within allocated resources and meets the needs of Monash Health patients.
- Contribute to supervision and education of junior medical staff and Rheumatology trainees in the outpatient setting.
What you need
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications
- Fellowship of the RACP (Paediatrics) or equivalent
- Working with Children's Certificate
- Satisfactory completion of training in paediatric or adult rheumatology or General Paediatrics.
The incumbent must complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement. This will be reviewed on a regular basis.
