About the Supportive & Palliative Care Unit 

The Supportive and Palliative Care Unit of Monash Health is broad and varied, and operationally based at McCulloch House at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. The unit is comprised of the following: 

  •  A 16-bed inpatient palliative care unit at McCulloch House and 5-bed unit at Casey Hospital.  

  • The Palliative Care Consultancy Service - seeing patients across 6 Monash Health Hospital campuses (Clayton, Dandenong, Casey, Moorabbin, Kingston and the Victorian Heart Hospital)  

  • Outpatient Services - OncoPain Clinic (refractory cancer pain clinic), Supportive Care Clinic and Casey Palliative Care Clinic · Outreach Services: RAPID Service & Palliative Care Hospital in the Home service, Supportive Care Clinic and Palliative Care Virtual Clinics (telehealth)  

  • Research Team  

  •  A specialist multidisciplinary team including pastoral care, music therapy, social work and a volunteer program The Supportive and Palliative Care department is a designated integrated palliative care and oncology centre of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO).  

It is a Monash University academic unit with varied research interests, and an accredited site for advanced training in palliative medicine.  

The broader unit is medically staffed by 11 consultants, 1 fellow, 5 registrars (undertaking advanced training in palliative medicine or a clinical foundation) as well as specialist psycho-oncology support and an intern based at McCulloch House.  

The service is further staffed by skilled clinical nurse consultants across the multi-campus consultation liaison service, and a specialist multidisciplinary team within our inpatient units.  

  

About the Role: 

  • This is a fixed term 0.6 EFT parental leave cover opportunity to join our team.  

  • The appointee will be administratively accountable to the Director of Supportive and Palliative Care for all clinical service delivery and clinical governance issues.  

  • The role will be focused on palliative medicine provision within a consultation liaison service and presence at two outpatient clinics per week, however the consultant will have opportunity to be involved in a number of aspects of our service.  

  • The appointee will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective person centered care, provide teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and students, and participate in a rotating on-call roster for after hours support.  

Please note - palliative medicine consultants may be required to work across all Monash Health campuses.  

 

About You

What you need: 

  • Be a legally qualified medical practitioner, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).  

  • Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or an equivalent post-graduate qualification as recognised by the National Specialist Qualification Advisory Committee and be a member of the RACP's Chapter of Palliative Medicine or be eligible to be a member.  

  • Have appropriate academic credentials in palliative medicine.
