About SEPHU

The South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU) is part of Victoria's once-in-a-generation reform of public health delivery. Serving a catchment of 1.8 million people across 11 local government areas, SEPHU plays a critical role in protecting and promoting health through disease prevention, outbreak management, and population health strategies. Led by Monash Health, SEPHU brings together expertise in communicable diseases prevention and control, health promotion, and prevention and partnerships. We work with local communities, health providers, and state-wide partners to strengthen Victoria's public health system and respond effectively to emerging health challenges

 

About the Role 

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Physician to join our SEPHU medical team. In this role, you will provide high-quality public health medical, technical, and strategic advice across health protection, promotion, and disease prevention. You will contribute to: Leading and supporting case, contact, and outbreak management of notifiable conditions. Providing clinical and strategic input into population health and prevention programs. Participating in state-wide Incident Management Teams and local emergency response activities. Building strong partnerships with health services, government, and community stakeholders. Supporting teaching, supervision, and capacity building of junior doctors, registrars, and public health staff. This role also involves participation in the on-call roster and functions as a Human Biosecurity Officer (HBO). 

 

About You

You are an accomplished medical professional who brings clinical expertise, strategic insight, and a commitment to improving public health outcomes. You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and are skilled at balancing clinical responsibilities with leadership, research, and education

 

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine or the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
  • Demonstrated experience in public health, infectious diseases, epidemiology, or population health.
  • Strong research, policy development, and data analysis skills.
  • A collaborative approach, with excellent communication and leadership abilities.
