About the Program

Monash Health Emergency Departments (excluding VHH) have introduced new inter-professional teams which bring together workers from mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) services, allied health & lived experience to provide specialised and integrated care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department with high acuity mental health, AOD issues, and complex psychosocial needs. These services are called the Engage & EMAAP teams. While providing a similar function, the teams operate differently and are located in different Monash Health programs (the Mental Health program operating Engage and Emergency Medicine operate EMAAP.). The teams provide a seven day a week, extended hours service, as well as an assertive outreach function that supports people following discharge for up to 28 days.

About the Team

The Emergency Department Consumer Peer Lead will work across Monash Medical Centre (MMC), Dandenong & Casey Emergency Departments within EMAAP and Engage teams' models of care. The EMAAP and Engage teams are committed to providing a service that acknowledges an individual’s strengths and abilities, and is welcoming, accessible, responsive, collaborative and safe. The teams seeks to develop positive relationships with people in crisis and deliver care and support that respects the individual’s rights, preserves their dignity, and promotes recovery and inclusion.
