About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic medical educator who shares our passion in shaping and delivering PGY1 (Intern) and PGY2/3 (HMO) learning.  The successful candidates will be highly motivated to make a difference to our most junior doctors starting their medical career at Monash Health.

 

  • 0.5 EFT (17.5 hours per week) fixed term for 6 months until 31 Dec 2025 with Monash Doctors Education (with options for contract extension by negotiation)
  • 0.2 EFT (7hrs per week) fixed term until February 2027.

 

Reporting to the Director, Monash Doctors Education (MDE), you will be accountable for the shared clinical lead and facilitation of the Intern / HMO curriculum.  Working closely with the Director, Education Manager, DCTs, Medical Education Officers and medical units, your responsibilities will also include:

  • Develop, plan and review the PGY1 or 2/3 tutorial program
  • Lead remediation of PGY1 and PGY2/3 junior doctors in role as ‘performance coach’ including contributing to intern support and wellbeing
  • Develop and enhance medical unit relationships to enhance teaching, learning and supervision at the unit level through collaboration and delivery of training, resources and support
  • Clinical oversight of PGY1 -3 assessments
  • Design and deliver innovative and high quality MDE education and resources using various methodologies in collaboration with the MDE team and JMO Education Committee, as aligned to the yearly MDE Operational Plan

 

The two positions on offer are slightly different in responsibilities and portfolios.

The 0.5 position will have professional oversight of Individual Learning Program (ILP), National Framework and Prevocational Unit Supervisor and the PGY1 & 2 training portfolios.

The 0.2 position will lead the Intern and PGY2 portfolio.

About You

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Appropriate medical specialist qualifications (any specialty, however core specialities of ED, Surgery and General Medicine will be highly valued)
  • A highly respected, practising member of the senior medical staff within Monash Health, ideally with a substantial appointment
  • Models high quality educational practice including teaching and supervision
  • Teaching characterised as engaging, relevant, interactive, innovative, supportive and effective
  • Qualifications in Education, ideally Health Professions Education (or commitment to undertake) would be highly regarded
  • As one of the key aspects of this role is leading the remediation of junior doctors, flexibility around following up with phone calls/emails/meetings will be needed throughout the week and cannot be scheduled to just one day
