About the Role

Join our team as a Family Carer Peer Lead on a full-time basis working a rotating 7 day roster. Based at Casey and Dandenong Emergency departments, this role will also include support to Lived Experience workers within Clayton Emergency department and travel to our Clayton site. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Family/Carer Peer Worker to join our team and support the growth of the peer workforce across our Emergency Departments. Working alongside the Consumer Peer Worker Supervisor, you will work closely with the Clayton EMAAP and Dandenong and Casey Engage Managers to support workforce expansion and provide professional leadership to the family/carer peer workers across our Emergency Departments.  

The Family Carer Peer Lead provides professional leadership, orientation, supervision, training, and support of Family Carer peer workers across three Emergency departments. Reporting to the Manager of the Engage team (Dandenong and Casey), the Family/Carer Peer Lead will draw on their established skills to ensure effective working relationships with clinical colleagues, peer workers and other stakeholders. Their expertise and leadership will contribute to the wider policy development and governance of the Lived Experience workforce across the Mental Health Program. You will use your skills to develop a cohesive Peer workforce able to confidently and competently use their lived experience to effectively support others. 

 

About Us

The Engage team works in collaboration with Mental Health Emergency Psychiatric clinicians and consists of Mental Health Social Workers, a Nurse with Alcohol and Drug expertise and Consumer and Family/Carer Peer workers. Our purpose is to effectively address the psychosocial factors that contribute to the consumer’s deterioration in their mental health within a fast paced emergency setting. We are a supportive team who are proud of the strong advocacy and practical support we provide to consumers and their families/carers. Our team has developed over three years prioritising change that will make service provision more effective for those we serve. 

 

About You

To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge: 

  • Established leadership skills with the ability to communicate with compassion and respect 

  • At least two years working as a Family/Carer Peer worker 

  • Ability to use own experience to inspire hope and belief in recovery 

  • Experience working in a fast paced environment is preferred. 

Mandatory requirements of the role:

  • Evidence of completion of the Intentional Peer Support training 

  • Current Driver’s Licence
