About Monash Health Women’s and Newborn
Monash Women’s Maternity Service is part of Monash Health. It is the largest maternity service in the State of Victoria, providing care to nearly 12000 births each year across four hospitals (Clayton, Dandenong, Casey and Sandringham) as an integrated, seamless service. As expected for such a large service, Monash Women’s provides maternity care for normal, healthy women and also for women with complex and sub-speciality needs. Casey, Dandenong and Sandringham Hospital provide a full suite of Level 4-5 maternity services (as per Victorian Maternity services Framework), including outpatient pregnancy care clinics, inpatient services and a domiciliary postnatal service. It is at Monash Medical Centre that subspecialty care in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Fetal medicine are provided.
Gynaecology services is similarly provided across all Monash Health Hospital campuses, including community hospitals and outpatient services. About the Role
Monash Women’s is seeking to appoint experienced and compassionate sessional Termination of Pregnancy (TOP) Surgeons & Clinical Consultants to support the expansion of TOP services across Monash Health.
This expansion complements the existing service and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing area of women’s health. Clinic and theatre sessions are available across multiple Monash Health sites, with flexibility in scheduling. Each combined clinic/theatre session will be paid for 8.5 hours, with sessions offered in a four-week cycle.
Successful applicants will:
- Participate in the delivery of high-quality Termination of Pregnancy services, consistent with Monash Health values.
- Provide clinical leadership through active involvement in patient care.
- Be available to medical colleagues for consultation and liaison as appropriate regarding patient care.
- Be available for urgent consultation and assistance in the management of patients requiring TOP services.
- Support academic, research, education, training & supervision (both undergraduate and postgraduate) roles within the Women’s Health Program.
- Contribute to ongoing service improvement and clinical innovation to ensure Monash Health provides accessible, safe, and patient-centred TOP services.
Clinical Lead Opportunity:
There is also an exciting opportunity for a suitable candidate to take on the role of Clinical Lead for the expanded service.
This role will include:
- Service management and coordination
- Guideline and pathway development
- Education and training
- Quality and Safety oversight
The Clinical Lead role will be remunerated at 3.5 hours per week.
Flexibility: The available hours may be allocated to multiple consultants, and there is flexibility in how these hours can be assigned. Applicants are encouraged to express interest in one or multiple sessions and clearly specify their availability.

- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications
- Working with Children's Certificate
