Monash Health Foundation is the fundraising arm of Monash Health, nurturing and encouraging philanthropic support, so we can provide positive experiences for the people we care for.

We are seeking an experienced philanthropy expert, as Head of Philanthropy, who is a strategic leader with a relationship-first mindset, to take our Major Gifts and Trusts & Foundations program to the next level.

The Head of Philanthropy will lead strategic philanthropic initiatives to secure transformative gifts that enable Monash Health to deliver exceptional care, innovation, and community impact. This role will assist in providing strategic leadership and oversight of Monash Health’s philanthropic strategy, working in close partnership with the Foundation Director to ensure alignment with organisational priorities and long-term sustainability. The Head of Philanthropy will influence system-wide initiatives, lead cross-functional collaboration, and represent Monash Health at the highest levels of donor and stakeholder engagement.

This role will play an integral part in delivering the Foundation’s objectives to substantially increase revenue through implementing a best-practice approach to securing significant philanthropic gifts across the whole of Monash Health.

This will be achieved by following ‘moves management’ processes to develop strong, ongoing, and effective relationships with a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and trusts & foundations – researching, drafting and presenting proposals, making informed and timely asks and representing the Foundation at internal and external events.

Key outcomes for this role will include:

  • Identifying an extensive prospective donor list and developing a portfolio of existing and potential philanthropic relationships.
  • Managing a portfolio of relationships through a customised and personal engagement process to cultivate, solicit and steward philanthropic gifts.
  • Maintaining high quality records in the Foundation’s CRM and reporting regularly when required.
  • Working closely with other Foundation staff to plan and execute a series of fundraising and stewardship events for major donors and prospective donors.
  • Actively promoting the work of Monash Health and its employees by conveying specific needs to donors and the community, through strategic relationship building and considered and timely asks.

What you need:

  • An undergraduate qualification or an equivalent, alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and experience.
  • Experience in leadership roles within philanthropy, or relevant fundraising areas.
  • Experience in and an understanding of the Australian philanthropic community.
  • Experience in collaborating with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Experience of successfully developing or implementing major gifts fundraising programs.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale philanthropic strategies with multi-million-dollar outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and appropriately represent the Foundation and Monash Health.
