About the Role
Monash Health is seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of Unit, Paediatric General Surgery to lead clinical and operational performance across our Children’s Surgery Program.
This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to shape paediatric surgical services, drive innovation, and deliver exceptional patient-centred care across one of Victoria’s largest health services.
Reporting to the Service Medical Director, Children’s Surgery and the Program Medical Director, Surgery and Anaesthesia, you will:
Provide outstanding clinical leadership and actively contribute to patient care
Lead and manage a high-performing paediatric surgical team across multiple sites
Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, timely, and patient-centred care
Drive service innovation, quality improvement, and workforce strategy
Embed a strong culture of research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration
Oversee governance, performance, and operational outcomes aligned with strategic priorities
Manage resources effectively to deliver sustainable, value-based healthcare
About You
You are an experienced and respected paediatric surgeon with a strong track record in leadership and service delivery.
You bring:
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS)
Registration with AHPRA
Proven ability to lead teams, drive change, and deliver strategic outcomes
Strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and innovation
Demonstrated experience in teaching, mentoring, and research
Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement, and management skills
Key Responsibilities
Lead clinical governance, quality, and safety within the department
Achieve operational and financial performance targets
Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and staff development
Promote a culture aligned with Monash Health values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence
Build strong internal and external partnerships, including with tertiary networks and professional bodies
Employment Details
0.8 – 1.0 EFT plus on-call participation
Appointment subject to credentialing and relevant clearances, including Working with Children Check
