About the Role

Join our team as a Health Promotion Practitioner on a full time, fixed term position until June 2026, working within the Health Promotion Team based at Mulgrave.  

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Grade 2 Health Promotion Practitioner to join the Health Promotion team and deliver high quality health promotion initiatives across the City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council  This position will support the development, implementation and evaluation of a required health promotion priority, setting or program area with ability to embed health promotion principles, the determinants of health, systems thinking and equity in work practices.   

 

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of Monash Health’s Community Health - Health Promotion Plan.   

  • Leading health promotion work in the priority areas of healthy eating, active living, reducing tobacco and vaping related harm and mental health.   

  • Delivering settings-based health promotion initiatives.  

  • Actively supporting and contributing to other catchment-based initiatives and activities for the allocated portfolios of responsibility.   

  • Applying health promotion practice principles such as local collaboration and community engagement, intersectional health equity lens, place-based approaches, developmental evaluation and systems thinking approaches.   

  • Contributing to the strengthening of local networks and partnerships to undertake preventive health action.   

 This role includes the requirement to travel to other sites and community settings. The role is hybrid with a minimum three days on site.  

  

About Us

Public Health is composed of three teams that target specific Public Health functions:  

  • Health Protection, Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control (CDPC)  

  • Health Promotion  

  • Health Prevention and Partnerships  

The South East Public Health Unit (SEPHU) is a major component of a once-in-a-generation reform of Public Health delivery in Victoria.  

The local public health units [LPHUs] have progressively taken on broader Public Health functions including 83 notifiable diseases and working to strengthen relationships with health care providers and services within their respective catchments, to deliver a comprehensive public health program including health promotion and prevention, and partnership with key stakeholders, across the catchment.  

The Health Promotion team works with key partners and community settings to deliver health promotion initiatives across the City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council, under current Community Health – Health Promotion funding guidelines.  

 

About You

To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:  

  • Must have at least 3 years health promotion experience   

  • Demonstrated understanding of Health Promotion core competencies, systems thinking and working in settings/ place-based approaches  

  • Capacity to be flexible and open to change, and to contribute positively to the workplace and team  

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.  

Mandatory requirements of the role - qualifications, licences, memberships:

  • Bachelor of Science (Health Promotion), Bachelor of Public Health Promotion, Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion, Bachelor of Health Science (Health Promotion), any other undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in health promotion, or any other undergraduate or postgraduate qualification relevant to the field of Health Promotion.  

  • Eligible for registration as an IUHPE Registered Health Promotion practitioner.  

  • Must hold a current Victorian Driver’s License
