The Research & Innovation Team are recruiting a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) Executive Officer!
About the Role
The HREC Executive Officer provides secretariat support for the Monash Health Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs) undertaking the following key tasks:
- Management of administration activities of the Monash Health Human Research Ethics Committee (MH HRECs)
- Responsible for Certification of the Monash Health HRECs under the NHMRC, Harmonisation of Multi-Site Ethical Review
- Ensure the MH HRECs function in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) guidelines and mutual acceptance of ethical and scientific review for multi-centre clinical trials scheme conducted in Public Health Organisations nationally
- Promote a team approach which fosters an inquisitive and improvement focused atmosphere
- Provide a leadership role at both state and national forums on ethics and governance, as one of the only HRECs certified for both paediatric and adult research
- Managing the process to undertake appeals and notification of complaints, misconduct and conflicts of interest
- Supervising and supporting junior team members and interns
- Management of HRECs membership
- Contribute to other activities on research governance & Compliance as directed by Head, Research operations and Director of Research & Innovation
About You:
- Completion of a degree (preferably in a health sciences field) with subsequent relevant experience or extensive experience, leading to the development of specialist expertise in administrative fields or a combination of relevant knowledge, training or experience.
- At least 5 years experience in a research office of a tertiary teaching hospital or tertiary academic institution that demonstrates a sound knowledge of research ethics requirements in Australia.
- Experience in liaising with senior clinical staff.
- Experience in providing management and administrative support to Human Research Ethics Committees.
- Experience in medical research.
- Experience with the ERM Research Ethics Database.
- The ability to function efficiently, accurately and calmly under pressure.
- The ability to work both independently and as a member of a dynamic team.
- The ability to manage difficult relationships in a calm and objective manner
