About Monash Health Pathology

 

As part of the Department of Health’s initiative to return public pathology to public hospitals and ensure consistent, accessible care for all Victorians, Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service.

Pathology services are provided from two main laboratories—The Alfred in Prahran and Monash Medical Centre in Clayton—and six branch laboratories located at Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Sandringham Hospital, Wonthaggi Hospital and Victorian Heart Hospital. In addition, there are 23 collection centres and rooms spread across South East Melbourne and South Gippsland, with the furthest one located in Yarram. The service will expand to Western Health by early 2026.

Within Monash Health Pathology, the Immunology Laboratory is a well-established laboratory, located within the Monash Medical Centre in Clayton. It encompasses a range of autoimmune serology, as well as malignant and immunodeficiency flow cytometry. It is serviced by a dedicated and skilled group of scientists.

 

About the Role 

 

The role is for a Specialist in Immunpathology to work 0.2 EFT at Monash Health, as part of the Shared Pathology Service. An additional 0.2 EFT is being advertised through Alfred Health. We invite you to apply to both health services. 

The successful applicant will be required to provide Immunopathology expertise to clinicians, liaise with clinicians regarding urgent and important results, as well as be involved in the reporting and interpretation of diagnostic results, including immunodeficiency flow. They are required to provide support to the scientific staff, including clarification of undefined immunofluorescence patterns and flow results, and actively participate in quality control, registrar and laboratory staff education. There is also an expectation to participate in an on-call roster and leave cover.

You will be joining a team of supportive pathologists across all pathology disciples who are focused on providing a quality service to the local community. You would also be part of a team of pathologists across Monash Health and Alfred Health, with provision of immunopathology service across both sites.

The position contributes in providing appropriate clinical supervision as per NPAAC guidelines, and effective functioning of the Immunology laboratory with a potential to be involved in service growth, research and development. There is close affiliation with Monash University, with opportunity to be involved in medical.

 

About You 

 

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate: 

· Immunopathology qualifications recognized by the Royal College of Pathologists (Australasia) and be eligible for Medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

· An innovative and analytical approach to planning and implementation

· Working knowledge of quality systems and laboratory operations
