About Us

 

The Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Service (MHDAS) forms part of the Monash Health Mental Health Program and is committed to supporting opportunities for recovery, change and growth through reducing alcohol and other drug related harms, improving physical and mental health, and strengthening connection to family, culture and community.

 

MHDAS provides a broad range of specialist services across the south-east metropolitan region including withdrawal services, counselling, rehabilitation, harm reduction, outreach, youth programs and specialist assessment services. Services are delivered across Dandenong, Cranbourne, Berwick and Pakenham by multidisciplinary teams including Social Workers, Nurses, Psychologists, Peer Workers and Allied Health Clinicians.

 

The South Eastern Consortium of Alcohol and Drug Agencies (SECADA) is a collaborative partnership between Monash Health, Windana, Odyssey House and YSAS, providing a centralised intake, assessment and referral pathway into specialist AOD treatment services.

 

About the Role

 

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Grade 3 Social Worker to join the SECADA Intake and Assessment Team within Monash Health Drug & Alcohol Services on a full-time ongoing basis.

 

As the Intake and Assessment Clinician, you will play a pivotal role as the first point of contact for clients, families and referrers seeking access to Alcohol and Other Drug services. You will provide comprehensive AOD assessments, treatment planning, referral, care coordination and linkage into residential and non-residential treatment services.

 

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will:

 

  • Conduct comprehensive AOD intake and assessment processes
  • Present assessments and clinical recommendations at multidisciplinary clinical review meetings
  • Coordinate referrals and admissions into the Community Residential Withdrawal Unit (CRWU)
  • Provide brief interventions, bridging support and harm minimisation strategies
  • Support consumers experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders across the AOD, mental health and community service sectors
  • Complete clinical documentation, reporting and data entry requirements

 

This role offers the opportunity to work within a highly specialised and collaborative AOD setting focused on evidence-based care, integrated treatment pathways and positive consumer outcomes. This is a full time, ongoing position, working Monday to Friday with flexible start & finish times available. 

 

About You

 

You are a compassionate, adaptable and clinically skilled Social Worker with experience working within Alcohol and Other Drug and/or Mental Health settings. You thrive in fast-paced environments and are passionate about supporting consumers through recovery-oriented and harm minimisation approaches.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

 

  • Demonstrated experience in AOD and/or mental health assessment, intervention and care planning
  • Strong understanding of harm minimisation principles and contemporary AOD practice
  • Knowledge of co-occurring mental health and substance use presentations
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Strong clinical reasoning, risk assessment and communication skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work both autonomously and within a team
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous improvement and consumer-centred care

 

Education & licence requirements include:

 

  • Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social Work (Qualifying), or equivalent qualification approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Eligibility for AASW membership
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
