About the Role - Laboratory Technician / Assistant, Haematology Research
Part Time Fixed Term (0.8 EFT) - Open to fractional appointment.
This position is split 50% labortary based and 50% adminstration work.
About the Role
Under the direction of the Haematology Clinical Trials Manager, Trial Co-ordinators and Research Nurses, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for providing support to all members of the Clinical trials Unit. The Assistant is responsible for processing, storage and dispatch of laboratory samples associated with clinical trials as well as administrative duties pertaining to the support of staff involved in the co-ordination of clinical trial patient activity and the conduct of clinical trials at Monash Health.
The position requires an individual that is highly motivated and resourceful with well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills. The Clinical Trials Unit is located at Monash Health Translation Precinct, and operates Monday – Friday, 8.00 am – 7 pm. Some flexibility will be required with hours, and will be negotiated accordingly.

Basic laboratory skills (such as kit labelling, centrifugation and aliquoting of blood samples).

Responsibilities and accountabilities to include but not limited to the following:
-
Central kit labelling and preparation
-
Processing and shipping of blood samples for central laboratory testing.

Booking couriers for international shipments
-
Maintaining supply of central kits – ordering, destruction, labelling
-
Assist in the collection and shipping of tissue biopsy specimens, archival and fresh.

Training to and following Laboratory Manual for each clinical trial for sample handling.

Documentation of each aspect of lab work (e.g. recording of incoming sample, recording temperature conditon and times for each step of processing)

Maintaining trackers for samples, couriers and kits.

Liaise as directed with internal and external departments to Monash Health.

Requisitioning of supplies, equipment and services from other departments as directed.

Photocopying of trial related documents as requested.

Maintain study related material – ensure pathology reference ranges updated every 6 months
-
Maintain patient confidentiality pertaining to patient, treatment, illness and study involvement at all times.

Assist with quality assurance requirements.

Demonstrate a team attitude through offering assistance to others.

Adhere to quality and safety requirements.

Other general administrative duties as required
About You
Qualifications:
-
Science qualification (relevant degree, diploma, TAFE certification or equivalent)
Technical skills/knowledge/experience:
-
Laboratory skills
-
Knowledge and/or experience within Clinical trials and/or pathology
-
Ability to work as part of a team yet able to work independently
-
Demonstrates the ability to keep complete and organized records
-
Ability to prioritize & excellent time management skills
-
Commitment to flexibility and innovation
