About the Role:
Join our team as a Lactation Consultant on a part time ongoing basis to work at Dandenong Hospital.
The successful applicant is responsible for providing high quality evidence-based breastfeeding and lactation support, education and care to mothers and families during pregnancy and the postnatal period. The Lactation Consultant will be required to respond to referrals made to Lactation Services, primarily from the Maternity wards, and to triage priority for referrals from Newborn Services and other areas of the hospital.
The role also involves providing staff education through face- to- face and virtual platforms, input into improving current Victorian State Government KPIs in relation to infant feeding and maternal experience, and involvement in ongoing Quality Assurance projects.
This part-time permanent opportunity is at Dandenong site based on the Maternity ward, in a 0.2 EFT/8 hrs per week on a Monday. ·
About You:
You are a dynamic and experienced Lactation Consultant who has a strong commitment to exceptional care and excellence in supporting women to achieve optimal outcomes that align with their lactation goals. You will work with the team in all aspects of the service delivery, including pregnancy and post-natal care, and will make individual assessments, provide support, education and plan of care for each dyad referred and seen.
You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have prior experience with providing lactation education to parents, their supports and colleagues, including members of the multi-disciplinary team employed across sites.
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge
- Demonstrated experience working within a Maternity service
- A positive attitude and passion for women centred care
- A willingness to work autonomously and as a part of the multidisciplinary team
- Drive and passion for continuous improvement across the Women’s and Newborn services and the willingness to collaborate with Lactation Consultant colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve real and improved services and outcomes
As a minimum you can demonstrate:
- Relevant qualifications including a current IBLCE Qualification
- Proven clinical experience as a Registered Midwife or Registered Nurse working within a Maternity services
