About the Wellness and Recovery Centre

The Wellness and Recovery Centre (WRC) is a specialist eating disorder service that is treatment based and recovery orientated. Teams provide care to both acute inpatient medical units and community treatment options utilising evidence based therapies, within a person centred, trauma informed and inclusive model of care. WRC has four teams: Adult Outpatients, Adults Inpatient, Youth Day Program and Adolescent In-reach to the Adolescent Inpatient Unit -Aviary Ward.


The Adolescent Inpatient Eating Disorder Program delivers specialised, eating disorder–focused mental health in‑reach interventions for adolescents aged 12–18 years and their families admitted to Monash Children’s Hospital under the Adolescent Medicine Team. The program provides person‑centred, trauma‑informed, inclusive, and evidence‑based individual and group interventions for young people experiencing severe and complex eating disorders.

 

About the Role

Join our team as a Mental Health Clinician on an ongoing 0.8 part time 7-day rotating roster, 4 shifts per week (7am- 3pm/1:30pm-9:00pm) to work at Monash Children’s Hospital based at Clayton.  In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of the Wellness and Recovery Centre’s manager and working with the broader adolescent medicine team.


As a Mental Health Clinician – Eating Disorders on the Adolescent Inpatient Unit, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to individuals and families in the acute phase of their eating disorder treatment. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will provide direct clinical support and therapeutic interventions in a ward environment. The program is committed to an evidence-based, trauma-informed model of care, and the ward setting offers a dynamic and structured space for intensive treatment, close monitoring, and coordinated care planning tailored to each individual's recovery journey.


You will:

 

  • Provides individualized and group psychoeducation and support to individuals and their families about eating disorders and recovery from a trauma informed framework.
  • Provides structured, compassionate meal support to promote nutritional rehabilitation
  • Monitors mental state and risk, including suicidality, self-harm, and eating disorder behaviours.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support individualized recovery planning.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:

  • Qualified mental health clinician with experience in acute mental health and/or eating disorder
  • Confident in assessing mental state and managing clinical risk including suicidality and eating disorder behaviours.
  • Thrives in dynamic ward settings, bringing core counselling skills, group facilitation, clinical insight, and a collaborative approach to trauma informed multidisciplinary care
  • Collaborative team player with strong communication skills, working effectively alongside multi-disciplinary clinical team.

 

Mandatory requirements of the role - qualifications, licences, memberships

 

  • Current registration with AHPRA
  • Working with Children’s Check
  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications in mental health Nursing, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Social Work, Speech Pathology, Exercise Physiology.
